Any Easy, Interesting Tv Shows To Learn Thai ?

Featured Replies

I used to watch the quiz show at 6 on TITV and the soap after that because I could half understand them and they were somewhat entertaining, but now that TITV has been taken off, im flicking through the channels and having trouble finding anything. A lot of it is just dribble. Does anyone have any TV show recommendations for learning thai ?

umm...how about some other soapies? whether they are actually interesting is arguable. on the upside, though, much of what gets said is fairly predictable and the not-too-subtle acting should fill in most gaps in your understanding. also, there is a lot of switching between scenes, which means you hear lots of greetings and everyday language (eg. where have you been? have you eaten? what were you doing with that floozy?).

kids shows can also be good, because there is lots of repetition and the speech is normally quite clear. apart from that, watch whatever is on, or whatever you enjoy. anything can be beneficial, even if you just pick out one new word.

all the best.

How about the newscasts?

How about the newscasts?

How about radio/internet downloads?

Listen to the international news on Thai VOA (Voice of America). The program includes some snippets of English and it also helps if you are aware of the news that day.

The VOA website is a bit confusing. This is the page for Thai news webcasts.

Thai soaps (ละคร) are actually pretty good for learning spoken Thai in various contexts. You have younger people addressing their elders, you have parents addressing their children, hi-so addressing their maids, etc.. :-P

So I'd suggest watching them purely for language education purposes. If you can stand the hysterical and screaming women, that is :o
