I want my Thai G/F (age 43) to visit the UK with our daughter for a month. My mums 80 and want her to see her grandchild.

My Girlfriend has been supported by me these last 4 years and is a great housewife and mother, so she has no funds really as I will pay the lot, however she has some savings over this period.

I have the funds back home and can support her trip etc.

She has a 19 year old son here that we will be putting through university.

What are my chances of getting a visitors visa for my g/f. Our daughter should have a UK passport before UK summer so she will be no problem. Worried about reason to return part of the appication.

For everyones info I will be moving here pretty soon (53 years old)

Hi.

My story is almost exactly the same as yours( just slightly out on the age 28 and 26 :o ). Girlfriend of 4 years, doesn't work as is housewife and mother to our son (18mths). The idea being that we planned to go back to the uk to see my mum due to the fact she cant fly here because of health reasons, and hasn't met her grandson or my partner yet.

I didn't need a sponsor as i could prove that we can look after ourselves financially.

We recently returned from Bangkok after handing in the tourist visa application and paperwork, and just the other day received all our original paperwork back, and in her passport was a 6 month multiple entry tourist visa. No work or study allowed. No questions, phone calls or additional bits of paper in the envelope.

some points you may want to consider:

1. Write a cover letter with your partners application from yourself, stating why you intend for her to return to the uk with you. With some background info of your situation etc...

2. create a timeline of your time together with annexes (proof) thereafter backing this up, for example : Dec 2004- Both flew to Bkk for Thai passport enquiry ( Annex A ):

3. Bank statements, copies of passports, birth certs of your child, photos, references ( if possible ), contract of your employment or confirmation of your retirement.

4. DO NOT let her listen to the staff in the visa app centre, they are simply there to collect the paperwork. Luckily i was there with my G.F (waiting outside). She came out all worried with the app in her hand saying that they told her to fill in the form again this time stating that she was going on a visitors visa to visit family in the U.K. This was not the case, and I sent her back in and told her to hand it in as we had originally filled it out.

5. There are hawks floating outside and around the centre offering their service to fill in the app for an almost certain result. This was offered to us for 30,000thb. We declined, but there was no shortage of others that didn't.

If you have nothing to hide, tell the truth and are a genuine case, then I think you will be fine.

Good luck.

Let me know if you want me to P.M you my cover letter and a copy of my time line.

Just re-read your post,, sorry i thought you were based in Thailand with her.

The above will still apply, you will just have to supply more evidence that you can support your g.fs visit to the uk.

Just be honest in your reason to return part of the form.

Hi Choppy

Thanks for your input.

With regards to the visiting family reason. Would it not be the case that if I took my daughter back to the UK myself then my g/f would infact be wanting to come to the UK to Visit family (In fact take care of her daughter)?

Yes I am in Thailand at the moment but will return home alone, come back May time and hope to take them both for a month or so during UK summer, say July. I normally spend about 5 months of the year in Thailand.

Hi

I see what your saying, but I think as you will be traveling together, quote:"come back May time and hope to take them both for a month or so during UK summer, say July": Then it would be a tourist visa that your after.

I am no a pro at this, the man you want to speak to is scouse. He has an ad at the top of the visa page, and is normally hanging around the visa sub forum on here, he is also based in the U.K

I must remind you that you can not apply prior 3mths before you want to return, and the application money is non refundable.

He will guide you as to what visa is preferable for your situation.

As for me well I'm taking my g.f and son back in feb, i want her to experience a crisp morning in the North of England, the only cold weather she has experienced is when the air con is on too low :o

Choppy is right with his advice highlighted above.

You will need to show proof of your relationship, the reason for her trip, proof of where you intend to stay in the UK and some sort of basic itinerary, proof of funds to cover the cost of the trip, and, very importantly, the reason why your G/F will return to Thailand at the end of her trip. The reason for her going to the UK is not as important as her reason needed for her return to Thailand. To say that she is coming to visit the UK to take care of your daughter is not a very good reason for her to want to return to Thailand. If she works a letter from her employer stating she has been given the time off work and will have a job on her return is a good reason. Like Choppy I also live in Thailand and that is a good enough reason for our G/F's to return so if you spend extended holidays in Thailand every year and can show that to the UK Embassy that might be sufficient, especially if her planned return coincided with one of your trips here (and you can show them you intend to move here permanently in the near future). They will give her a six month visa so you don't have to restrict her visit to one month if a longer stay in the UK will fit in better with your plans. Finally, as well as providing documentary proof of everything, as her sponsor a good sponsors letter from yourself covering all of the above, I believe, is essential. And tell the truth, they've heard all the lies from other people already. Like Choppy I can show you a copy of the type of sponsors letter I used. PM me if you want it.

Good luck.

Thanks for all your help guys.

As stated in the original posting. The reason for return seems to be my stumbling block and the one I'm most worried about. Ok she has a son here but he is nearly 19 so that may not be a good reason.

We have setup a company a couple of years ago together that holds land but I am not sure if this is a good reason for return, one of these days we hope to build a house but at the moment we're renting.

Choppy what does this mean below:

'I must remind you that you can not apply prior 3mths before you want to return, and the application money is non refundable'

You have a maximum of 3 mths before you plan to go back to the uk, to apply for your visa.

I had planned to go back in feb with my family, it was brought to our attention when we visited bkk on business in November and tried applying then. The man politely told as that we can not apply before 3 mths of the intended visit.

hence we returned within the 3 mth time period, and applied.
