Hi all,

I need some advice regarding uk settlement visa apllication.

I am soon to marry my thai girlfriend.

We met online february 2007, i went to visit her for 3 weeks in july 2007, I came to visit her again on the 5th of november 2007 and am still here, we will marry soon and i will return to the uk for work.

I have a house in the uk for us to live in which i have owned for the past 10 years with a mortgage. I have savings in the bank of approx 80k.

for the past 5 or 6 years i have been working outside of the uk on a contract basis.

I will get a contract in the uk when i go back but it will probably only be short term i.e 6 months.

will i have a reasonable chance of getting a settlement visa and if so how long does the whole process take ?

one further thing to add is that i have just found out that we are going to have a baby, which i am pleased about, will this affect the visa application

Any advice from anyone with any experience in these matters would be hugely appreciated

Yes, it can take 4 days from submitting your application to receiving the answer unless your application is weak and your wife needs an interview, in which case it depends on the waiting list for interviews (currently 6 - 8 weeks)

Being pregnant will not influence the decision either way

Search this forum using the search facility on the word "settlement" and you will unearth lots of tips, hints and links about applying, success and failure.

If your contract in the UK will be for only six months, you will have to satisfy the visa officer that you will either find alternative employment easily, or that you have sufficient savings to take care of yourselves. In this regard, having £80,000 in the bank will assit greatly.

Scouse.
