The Deaf And Dumb Scam

Featured Replies

I guess most of us here have encountered the deaf and dumb scam. You are in a restaurant or buffet and a person walks in with a card trying to flog you something/asking for money. Thai/English cards states they are deaf and dumb. A new angle here in Khon Kaen. farang girl early 20's tries the same scam last night. She avoids us because we are farang but I sign her. No reply apart from smile. She is a con artist. As are 98 % of these rip off merchants. The Thai's all pay up pronto.

What the hel_l is a 20 something western girl doing here in Thailand on this scam?

ask her.

pretty smart to play on people's sympathies. I ignore them all. Prob make more dosh then all of us anyways.

ask her.

She ran like a dose of salts :o

There is a group of these people who work outside the Royal Garden shopping center in Pattaya city.

I think their laminated cards say they are collecting for the boy scouts of Thailand (an organization

which actually exists I believe) anyway, they are quite clever they have little buttons they give the

marks and then they have them sign the donation book so they feel obligated. When you see

kindhearted people who think they are helping give these guys a 1k note it turns your stomach.

When the mark walks down the street, they're slapping each other on the back with glee. Security

at the shopping center just looks the other way and this scam has been going of forever. :o

thais dont just pay up!
