Taiwanese drug smugglers get death, lifer in Thailand

BANGKOK: -- A Thai court has sentenced three Taiwanese men to death and another three to life in prison following their arrest last year on drug trafficking charges, an official said today.

The six men, ranging in age from 24 to 50, were arrested on Sept. 13, 2003, when police stopped their van and seized 11.7 kilograms of heroin they allegedly planned to ship out of the country through the Gulf of Thailand.

The men, whose names were unclear from court records, were arrested while driving to the southeastern resort town of Pattaya, a court official said on condition of anonymity.

He said three of the men were initially sentenced to death but had their punishment reduced by the Criminal Court on Friday because they pleaded guilty and cooperated during the trial.

I was requested once to attend a "justice display"once in Riyadh on a Friday after the alsalami wha-ho service but on that occasion it was a couple of punters who had committed and admitted to straighforward robbery.

No problem then, quick up and over with the old sword and plop off came the hands (right one-of course)stump dunked into a bucket of what looked like pitch to seal the end and everyone in the crowd clapped and then went home for lunch.

We just stood there slight dazed :D to say the least.....No Thanks :o

Fortunately we managed to avoid futher invitations to "see our justice at work lunchtime shows" especially when the following Fridays display involved the top side job on a couple of Yemanis who must have been very naughty. :D

over 25 years later they are still at it but I still cant SEE the sense :D

anyway ...todays news from...

Death by sword

Riyadh:

Three Saudi border guards were executed by sword in Araar, which borders Iraq, for trying to smuggle a large quantity of hashish into the kingdom, Saudi Arabia’s official news agency reported. The three beheaded had used security vehicles to transport the drugs, the agency said. (AFP)
