Have been using the Moto Q EVDO phone for 2 weeks. http://www.catcdma.com/product/motoQ.html

Overall - a very good experience so far.

Tested the internet connection in Krabi, Samui, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai - works fine.

Had download speeds around 600-800 kbps in most cases with a few drops to 200 kbs

The EVDO icon was on almost everywhere within reception area.

Sound quality's good too.

Camera is below average - 1.3 MP, but I never use it anyway.

The Windows Mobile for Smartphone is apparently a full and up to date version with full features like usb and bluetooth modems activated and push email from exchange severs enabled.

Battery life is ok - nearly two days of moderate usage or a day of intensive usage with bad network coverage. Charges by mini usb from AC, laptop or car adapter (included).

Mobile explorer is ok but not a big fun, can be useful anyway - finding an address quickly of reading news, the screen is bright and sharp, usable in daylight easily. No problems with pages encoding.

Installed google maps. Installed Skype - it works, I tried Skype to Skype calls, some delays but generally ok.

Still hasn't figured out how to install icq, cyrillic input, and how to send international sms from CAT CDMA phones (for a year already, should just call them I guess).

What i liked most is the push email for Mobile Outlook. I use a hosted exchange email (from www.sherweb.com) and it works perfectly with the mobile Outlook on Moto Q.

The email messages arrive in realtime the same way as sms. My work depends on email a lot and this really helps and saves time.

I hardly use the device to answer emails but it keeps me updated. Displays the last 40 messages as I understand.

The address book, tasks and calendar can also syncronize with exchange.

Can view attachments (MS Office files and pdf).

Convenient to type and navigate. Light and thin (although wide), fits in a pocket.

Can receive incoming calls when connected to internet.

Negative:

The price is THB 20000 :o , but it was a gift for me :D

Modem internet connection sometimes drops when not active for a while or after incoming calls (can be solved i guess, need to find out about that).

International dialling is in 009 + (country) + (area) ... for CAT

would prefer a + sign, this 009 numbers are not comfortable when having an address book on exchange etc. (this is for Cat CDMA not the phone) and yes, can't wait for data roaming with Hutch in Bangkok.

Altogether - a great solution for mobile email (especially for exchange) and as a highspeed modem on the road.

To cut it short, for me the main benefits are:

Can go to short business trips without carrying laptop, have Exchange mail and address book at hand whenever I need it.

Can use a high speed mobile internet for laptop all around Thailand (except Bangkok and Pattaya at the moment)

Can use as a back up for ADSL at home
