Oil Change/service For New Ls 2.0 Liter Captiva Diesel

Could someone please help to clear the amount of kms travelled before you need to service or change oil on a new 2.0 diesel Captiva LS. My wife insists that the service people say that it is 10,000 kms for the first service. I always thought the first service on a new motor was around 2000 kms and maybe 10,000 kms after that. Also what motor oil is reccomended. To get 10,000 kms between services you would think the oil would have to be synthetic. I do not have a English language operators manual, so I am a little in the dark. Any help would be appreciated.

I know the owner's manual is in Thai but there are normally coupons in the front of the warranty book. Both my Ford and Nissan have those tear out pages and they have the kilometer numbers on them. The dealer keeps a copy and service information is recorded in the book. If the first page says 10,000 that is what it is. The dealer will put in the oil the manufacturer recommends. Since they guarantee the vehicle, I wouldn't change the brand. My Nissan dealer uses Nissan brand oil and the oil bottles say it is a partially synthetic blend. The Nissan truck had a 2,000 kilometer first time service. They changed the oil, filter and also the oil in the differential and transmission. The Ford was 10,000 kilometers but that is a gasoline engine.

I have read somewhere that in Europe the focus diesel can run 20,000 km between oil change.

My first service was at 10,000 and after that every 15,000. They also rotated my tires at 10,000. I have no idea why, they still looked brand new.

I would like to thank Gary A and North for your info. I know we had new Ford Ranger diesels made in Thailand in the Mideast and the first service was 2000 kms. I just find that 10,000 kms for the first service must mean that they really trust their engines.

Turbo charged engines NEED synthetic oil...the regular stuff would literally bake and go from oil to sludge to dust a lot faster under the added pressure/heat than synthetic. Somebody I know found out the hard way just how sensitive turbo charged engines are to oil change intervals. Also, if you drive mainly in town as I do, oil changes must occur more often and it's a good idea to get the mechanic to change the filter as well. Many change it every other time, but you'll have about 500ml or so of dirty oil sloshing around in there. I get the filter changed on our car every time they do the oil (every 5,000km).
