I've just moved to Bangkok from the States and brought my US xbox 360 with me. I need to buy a 220v power supply for it but no luck so far. No one at MBK had it. I suppose Panthip is the obviously place but does anyone know a particular shop or floor?

I shipped the 110v supply so that is on the slow boat and I'd like to get a 220v anyway instead of using a step down transformer..

Thanks for any suggestions!

dont think the us version supports 220V. you need a 110V and a step down for a us version to work here.

The xbox 360 power supplies from all over the world take the local power supply and then deliver the required power to the console. I know this from experience after buying one from Japan and then using an Australian power supply (and later one from Taiwan when I lived there) and they worked fine.

However: a warning! Please don't buy an unofficial power supply. I got burned at a shop in MBK called 'Bus Game'. He was a very smooth operator and claimed to be selling official power supplies for 1700 baht. This was cheap compared to the 4,500 we were quoted at the game shop in Panthip plaza.

The one he showed us had the official Microsoft sticker and everything. Later when we went to pick it up, he had put a copy power supply in the box. I saw that the unauthorized power supply can take 110 to 240V so I thought I would give it a chance because I could take it pretty much anywhere in the world and it would work.

WRONG. It just died, after less than 2 weeks. I'm in Khon Kaen now and I won't be back in Bangkok for months.

There is a shop in MBK called 'Matthew Games' - they had official power supplies for 2,200 baht. Well worth it, but make sure it has the official Microsoft sticker on the base.

Be careful. There are 3 different models of the PSU. Older models will not fit into newer console, but for some reason, newer PSU's will fit in older consoles.

skippy: you can probably get a few more months out of your console by "towelling" - overheating it. I know it sounds weird but i tried it on my dead xbox and got another 3 months out of it. I also did the x-clamp mod - but i did get success by towelling on it's own.

I brought one over from the states and when I plugged it in it started smoking. I blew a couple of thingmajiggys that I changed out. Then I bought a 220 to 110v transformer (local electronics shop) and stuck a socket on the 110v side and a plug on the 220v side and used it for a year or so until the red rings of death. Then I bought one from MBK. Still going strong.

I also tried the Heat gun method the towel method and the X-clamp method and they all worked for a very short time. Just go buy a new one from MBK they are cheap enough and already chipped.
