September 15, 200421 yr Following on from another posting about non-BG GFs being mistaken for BGs.... How do you spot a BG? It seems most Thais can spot them a mile away Is it the tight and oh-so-short denim shorts? Is it the 7 inch platform shoes to bring her height up to 5 feet? Is it the obligatory tattoo on the shoulder-blade? Is it the fat, bald 60 year old farang trying to french-kiss her? And how can a non-BG dress so that no-one mistakes her for a BG? (Not easy, since My non-BG GF dresses in decent-length skirt and court shoes and is still mistaken for a BG - presumably because of me hovering nearby )

I think this is just one of the things that you have to accept is going to happen in Thailand. No matter what you try to do some Thais will still think your GF/Wife is a BG.... My advice is not to give a sh1t about what others think... you and your GF/Wife know who you are and that's all that matters... Sure.... you are going to be embarassed or upset or even angry when assumptions are made.... but who cares... tell them politely the truth, and the person who made the assumptions will look stupid... totster
September 15, 200421 yr Author Totster, I think the answer is that I need to lose about 17 years and grow a bit more hair, plus borrow my kids from my UK wife and shuffle around as one big happy family
September 15, 200421 yr well you can't always tell, but it's suspicious when the girl is very young and the guy is a farang geezer. but if her clothes are not too tight or short, no lowcut tops, not too much make-up as well. but, sadly to say, many thais will think a girl is bg also because of the darkness of her skin, since most prossies come from isaan. maybe that's why all the whitening creams are so popular.

Ahhh... that's a good point.... But there is a whole other topic about fair skin/dark skin... it's also to do with social class... totster

September 15, 200421 yr As a Thai, I personally don't assume a girl is a prostitute just because she is with a foreigner. I think the main telling point is that the girl -and sometimes the guy- seems out of place: there's often a jittery lack of confidence -probably the feeling that having slept with 5,000+ men, the odds are at least decent that you'll run into some of your old or current customers- about them as well. Typically as obvious as a stripper in a group of sorority girls in the west (yes, all blondish, fluffy, and a little ditzy, but you can just tell).

September 15, 200421 yr Repeat the comparison once the attire is off. Then we only talk about attitude.
September 16, 200421 yr the fat, bald 60 year old farang trying to french-kiss her? ^^That can be a bit of a giveaway
September 16, 200421 yr The couples that get off at Nana skytrain at 1755 are a dead give away! If the girl is eyeing up other men. Clothes are a dead give away. Tatoos, smoking.
September 16, 200421 yr Maybe the other Thais are not (just) looking at the girl, but judging by the Westerner she's with. If he looks fresh off the plane, yet they're both getting along like they are about to get married, surely that's a bit of a giveaway. Just like we think we can spot the difference between bar girls and regular girls, maybe Thais think they can spot the difference between tourist Westerners and residents... (I think the majority of us can)
September 16, 200421 yr The accent is always a dead giveaway. And tonnes of overuse of the word "terak" by both involved....
September 16, 200421 yr Oh poor me, I tick most of the points stated here Tats on arm and full back. Wear hot pants and spaghetti strap which reveals my tats. Smoke in public. I'm Asian, Bf is farang, 11-yr gap, and we kiss in public. I don't have native-speaker's accent. I like eyeing on handsome guys, sometimes booby girls too... Maybe I should kill myself in Nana Hotel
September 16, 200421 yr The accent is always a dead giveaway To a Thai maybe:-) How about the use of BAD English. A great clue. We never say meunghaan meunghaan So where does same same come from? Learned in Bars. MR DJ. Is that your Father in the picture?
September 16, 200421 yr He is a father of sorts...My old friend Mr Edwin Starr, sadly no longer with us.
