I want my gf to come to the UK this summer for maybe 6 weeks. I understand she will need to get a tourist visa for her stay. Can someone advise me of the best way to do this. Is the easiest way for me to sort it out from here in the UK or for her to arrange things from Thailand. What do we do? just fill in a form?

This is the first time she will have visited here so I am a total novice at this. As far as I understand, I will have to act as her sponsor and she will need proof that she will return to Thailand. This seems a bit of a catch 22 situation as the only evidence we could provide would be the return flight ticket. Do I have to pay for her return flight first and then hope we will get the visa?

Many thanks

Yup, unless you are married, preparing for getting married and wanting to go for settlement or you happen to have lineage other to British, this would be the option.

In my experience it will require the resources of both of you.

Yup, and fulfill the criteria.

You do not always have to be sole sponsor and it is usual for her to provide evidence that there is sufficient reason for return, just to prove on the balance of probabilities, that she will return, although, if you can cover all the bases and provide a document that can sufficiently give the BE enough evidence that within the balance of probabilities, that she will return this can negate evidence of reasons to return.

If she has strong family connections, can be one overriding factor.

Do not hope on a weak application, although I do not know yours is weak, either cover all the bases and go for it, or engage an advisor and ensure it is an OISC registered company.

Apologies for the poor explanation, Ireland lost in the Six Nations and my mind is not quite on it :o

Scouse it might be best if you put me on, 'MOD Preview' tonight, or else I could end up banned.

Depends on your circumstances and knowledge, trawl through this forum, use the search function, words must be longer than four letters and go from there, refine your questions, to what you want to know or need to know.

If all else fails, engage an advisor, but I guess we need more info.

Good Luck

The BE advises that you do not purchase any tickets prior to learning the result of the application. Anyway being in possession of a return ticket will not cut it as a 'compelling reason to return".

The application must be done in person by your g/f at the UK VAC in Bangkok however you can download the relevant form, complete it for her together with your sponsorship package and send it to her for signing and presentation.

As already suggested above, use the search facility on this forum using the words "tourist" or "visitor" and you will uncover hints and links.

Scouse.

Well, thank the Almighty for that, Brian O'Driscoll in this case, but I will still go back and check my posts, see who I upset this time :D
