How can I check my account?

I know it's illegal to gamble here in Thailand, but I need to log in and transfer the funds I have accumulated whilst in the UK,

to my bank.

If I go to the betfair site I get the usual blocked. I have emailed betfair and they say I have to log in to request transfer.

I use IPstar.

One way is to discover or ask for Betfair's IP number - and then visit the site that way instead of typing in the domain name. Otherwise, you're probably SOL.

Find a mate or an internet cafe using CAT Telecom - they're not blocked

To get the IP No. is easy, just ping the websitename (ping betfair.com)!!

Doesn't work if the site is blocked by the ISP or CAT, because it will return the redirected DNS ip of the "Blocked" page. You should go and get the IP elsewhere online, just google for "Check IP" or something similar.

edit -> Hmmm... True has been much faster the last couple of days, at least from home. It could be that the additional bandwidth mentioned in another thread has been activated... but more interestingly, sites I thought were previously blocked are no longer blocked!

The site has to be blocked by the ISP, you can't just block a page across the whole of Thailand. Some are more active at doing it than others. There are thousands of sites that you can access on one ISP and not on another. Cat seems to be the most relaxed about the whole thing in my experience, which is amusing really as they are state run.

Edit to add - I just accessed Betfair on my CAT line to check I was right, and it works.

Couldn't you simply use a proxy server site and this will allow for you to access the site with no problem.

OP needs to log into the site - most often a proxy can't handle this if the site is well protected.

Unless you can find a different ISP, if Betfair don't recognize their own site by IP, you're stuck. Maybe go try from an internet cafe or something but be careful.

Same concept, not same company. Betfair is far and away the largest betting exchange online.

By the way, Reimar, as you will have noted, only the OP seems to be blocked - everyone else has access. It is definitely not a government-blocked website and no one is suggesting that the OP does anything illegal - he just wants access to his account to cash out funds.

I had know that and my post was just not to forget that that the discussion about bypassing blocked sites isn't allowed. Don't want that discussion go that way!

It is if you are using IPstar, I've just tried it.

As I said before it will be blocked on some ISP's and not on others. The government sends a list of URL's to the ISP's to block, some of them do this very voraciously while others, well, don't really give a stuff. Partypoker is another one. With Betfair probably the 2 largest gambling sites in the world that will be blocked by a few ISP's but not by the majority.

On True in BKK, I find the frames content is blocked but the text menu, including sign up for account is visible. Must say I'm pleasantly surprised how long this thread has run, but as I PM'd the OP yesterday there is only one solution, which needs input from the site owners to make operable and has been eluded to herein.

I don't think the site owners are likely to make changes to allow ip-based access or alternate domain names, if that's what you suggested. In particular, Betfair is huge and unlikely to have only a single IP for their site, I imagine there are a number of servers in various locations.

Furthermore, if the OP's intention is to transfer his funds out to a Neteller account, that won't work either as Neteller has blocked access from Thailand.

Personally, I think Thailand should join the rest of the world and stop filtering content. As far as I know, the only other country in Asia doing this is China (although I am going to assume Myanmar does it as well).

Sweetchariot - Partypoker is not the biggest poker site by a long shot, at least not any more. Pokerstars is. Betfair is the largest betting exchange by a long shot but not so sure about largest overall gambling site, though it is definitely amongst the top few.

ok it looks like some settings or something have changed on my laptop. When I used to type a search into the address bar in internet explorer, it would go straight to google, now it goes to a thai search engine called 'nipa'. Is there any reason why it would suddenly change like that? Is there any way of getting it back to the way it was?
