Plenty of tuktuks and red taxi's or Songteaws that can bring you to your dining destination: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=25597 your chat and sip destination: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...85&hl=drink and above all to your ultimate hamburger: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=166772 At Tuskers bar (click on banner) you most often will find TV and/or Chiang Mai Expat Club members enjoying their sip and chat. The hotel web site is: http://www.r24.org/siameservices.com/chiangmai/suandokkaew/ . Based on the pictures showing no rugs on the floor in the room, the overall write up, and a rate of about $25/night, I would guess it would be more of a motel quality than hotel. Very basic accomodations, but clean and adequate if you will only be there for sleeping? From the map shown on the hotel's site (no where near to scale) and another map of Chiangmai showing the moat and Kad Suan Kaew (available on Thai Visa) should orient you as to the basic location. But it is a long way from the Ping River, the Night Bazaar, and most of the night life tourist enjoy. However, being near the university, there will be a continuous stream of baht buses and tuk tuks available after work (and an interesting street night life as the students come and go as college students do everywhere).

Forgot to add that there are plenty of taxis in CM and, to me, not unreasonable. Cost a lot more than that baht buses and tuk tuks and I normally don't use them just in town, but they can be worth it for convience in some cases. You can get their dispatch phone number from the hotel. You will see them at the Kad Suan Kaew shopping mall and some other locations. From your question I get the idea you are new to CM and, therefore, want to see as much as you can during your free time. Unless you are constrained to that location because of your day time commitments, I think you can find a hotel in a better location, even staying in the $25-$30 range. You can definitely improve your location and quality of room by paying not much more. Go to http://www.hotelthailand.net/search_instan...;bd=1&sList= and look at hotels. You can check their location at each hotel web site or get a map print out of downtown (i.e., the moat and east to the river) and find the hotel locations by address.
