Thanks for that.

Have discussed option of acquiring a Mia Noi from your side of the family with my wife. She muttered something in Laos about Thailand having expertise in Penis re-attachment for a reason.

The Chicken farming business sounds great but might appeal more to younger people settling in Thailand rather than older retiree's who may not want to put together a package like what you mentioned above.

Still curiouse to know what part of Thailand you are in.

Does it not show the area I am in below my Avatar?

Well I am in Phetchabun, 350kms North of BKK.

Hello Monkeypants, try white vinegar, I ran a cross some stories on the net used as a chemical free weed killer.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_good_h...ade_weed_killer

has the formula..it works..i tried it

This formula calls out for alot of salt....salt is something you probably don't want to put in your soil. If there is adequate rainfall it will wash the salt out eventually so I guess the damage wouldn't be permantent....probably best to rule out using salt although my uncle (who keeps cows) tells me that if you want to get rid of all vegetation you can spray it with salty water and then graze the cows there...they love salt and he claims they will eat everything right down to the ground. So far I have not tried this....I kill vegetation in preparation for planting using tillage.

Chicken business for meat looks good at the present, from above posts. Is anyone in the egg business? Meat prices at local markets is about 110 bt/kilo whereas 3 years ago it wea about 50 bt/kilo, eggs in the same time frame have gone from 140 bt/100 to 260 bt/100. Are the egg farmers making a decent profit at this price?

Not really sure on that one ozzydom, but, the 6 ton of rice straw is dry when we buy it, and damp when we sell it, with poo and pee, I would have to weigh a few bags and give you mean average, Wait until the end of this cycle (about 20 days time) and I will be able to give you a better idea.

Cheers

Many thanks mate, chicken poo is pretty high in phosphorus , at the moment we use high P fertilizer in our fish ponds for "greening" but the price of fertilizer is sky rocketing so am looking at alternatives. Am not sure how much would fit on a ten wheeler in bags.

regards

ozzy

Ok our chickens went late last week we had them for 43 days, average size per chicken was 2.597kg.

Have sampled weighed a few sacks of used bedding, about 15kgs per bag, we filled 1600 bags, which if I am correct about 24 ton of the stuff. we sold 1200 bags at 8 baht ( ordered and deposit recieved a while ago) and the remaining sacks we have sold for 10 baht per sack. Due to increases in fertilizer we decided to increase the cost of the waste.

Apparently once waste product is applied to the soil, it can fertilize it for a couple of years or so, I assume that it has a slow breakdown rate?

I am not trying to sell any of you the waste , we have orders for the stuff even at 10 baht per sack. When the rainy season hits, the farmers still buy it from us and save it for applying at a later date.

We pay outside day workers 1 baht per sack to fill the sacks with the waste, also when the fresh straw arrives it cost us 700 baht for them to move it into the chicken shed and spread it about.

So we buy 6 ton of bedding, and sell 24 tons of waste and bedding, and make a few thousand baht at the same time.

Google chicken manure/ fertilizer and you get a good idea of % breakdown each year etc. This does not include manure/bedding mix as that is unknow quality but even gives a few thoughts to base application on. The pure crap from under roost works good on alki ground (salt) if applied every 2 year or so, even if experts say, dont expect much improvement.
