90 Day Report Rule

Featured Replies

When I last renewed my education visa they put a note in my passport saying that I had to report back within 90 days (23rd March). Inconveniently, my visa has to be extended on the 25th March. Is it possible for me to report back earlier than this, say next week?

The 90 Day report has a window of 7 days beore and after. So yes you can go early.

No you can not go next week. It should not be a problem doing both on the 25th (as you will only be two days late on the 90 day address report (if that is what you are talking about) - but I am not sure they will allow any variance on 90 day ED extensions of stay.

Thanks for the reply. Can you just confirm; even though the date I'm meant to report is 23rd March, I could go 2 days later (when my visa actually needs renewing) and I won't be penalised?

The best we can do is advise the published rules and what others have experienced. The below is on the 90 day reporting page of official Immigration web site:

The notification must be made within 7 days before or after the period of 90 days expires.

To confirm lopburi's quotation, Mae Sae immigration told me in person that there was a 7 window grace on the late side too.

When I made a 90 day report today, I was told to file another report in two weeks time when I will be applying for visa extension.

Presumably this is in order to (approximately) get the dates in sync.

Lop - I have a similar issue with a twist. Due to report 12th May. Stamp expires 18th May. However, I'm flying to London for 10 days on the 16th May, so will re-enter on Non-ED ME on the 27th. Am I right in thinking this counts as 'reporting' when I re-enter LOS? Do you think they'll hassle me about not reporting on the 12th, bearing in mind I won't be in LOS within the 7 day window? Or is it better to just report on the 12th before I leave? What do you reckon?

Don't believe you will have any problem. Arrival date is always day one of a new 90 day period.

Is that with all the immigration offices for a 7 day grace before & after. I always hear from other people. 7 days before is okay. But, only 2 days after. Is there a exact grace day for after the 90 day check in?

The quote is from Immigration HQS. Plus/minus 7 days. There are no provisions for reporting at other offices listed. If you report at another office you will have to do what they say, but suspect the reason for the 7 day range is to allow keeping reporting in sync with yearly extensions of stay visits so they probably should allow the same plus/minus 7 days. Perhaps the 2 days is in reference to change of address reporting rather than normal 90 day reports?

I was told this at Chiang Mai Immigration. The next time I went a few days late and no problem. However, that was about a year ago, since then i've been on time and on one visit a guy was fined for being five days late. Maybe it was because he marched in , plonked his passport on the desk and didn't wai or greet, he simpley muttered "90 days". Perhaps attitude has something to do with it.

If you don't want to risk getting fined then go on time or early. Simple as that. You can confirm with your immigration office on your next vistit, but what they say today doesn't mean it will be the same in 90 days.

Thanks Lop. Your advice always much appreciated.
