State media chief gets abrupt transfer

BANGKOK: -- Pramote Ratvinij, Director-General of the Public Relations Department (PRD), was abruptly transferred on Thursday to the Prime Minister's Office to oversee the yet-to-be-formed ASEAN television station, the Minister to the Prime Minister's Office announced on Thursday.

The lightning transfer was issued following days of mounting speculation that Mr. Pramote would soon lose his politically-sensitive post.

Minister Jakraphob Penkair said Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej signed the order transferring the PRD chief to the Prime Minister's Office and appointing his deputy Pacheun Khampho to replace him as acting PRD chief.

The minister explained that the decision was not politically motivated as the government needs a capable person to implement the urgent task.

Mr. Pramote, seen as being close to the now-defunct military coup makers formerly known as the Council for National Security (CNS), was the third senior government official who was axed since the People Power Party-led coalition government came to power after the December 23 general election.

The People Power Party (PPP) is comprised of key allies of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was toppled in a bloodless coup in September 2006.

Last week former justice Sunai Manomaiudom, Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation, was transferred to a newly-formed agency.

The DSI is responsible for some major corruption cases including charges against Mr. Thaksin and his wife Pojaman over the alleged concealment of shareholdings in SC Asset Corp, a listed property development company.

On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Dr. Siriwat Thiptaradol, was also made an inspector general at the Public Health Ministry.

Dr. Siriwat was appointed by the military-installed previous government to chair the committee for compulsory licensing (CL) of patented drugs, a controversial action which the new government is reviewing.

The policy allowed poor patients access to expensive life-saving drugs at much cheaper prices.

It's not like the CNS din't do this to an elected government only 18 months ago....... Jobs for the boys, that's politics unless we want the military to stay in charge. \

Watching Thai TV last night was a real eye opener. The military had some high level meetings, obviously to discuss the ongoing government movements. What really shocked me was at the close of the meetings. Every single General that left the meeting, around about 20 of them, left in the latest model black Mercedes. Looks like the boys have got their toys already.

What is an officers salary?

PRD Director-General transferred to PMs Office

Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Jakrapob Penkae (จักรภพ เพ็ญแข) revealed that the office ordered Public Relations Department (PRD) Director-General Pramote Rattavinich (ปราโมช รัฐวินิจ) to be transferred to a position within the Prime Minister’s organization.

Mr. Jakrapob stated that he had made the request to the Prime Minister himself. The order has been approved and will take effect today. Deputy Director-General of the PRD Phachern Khamphoe (เผชิญ ขำโพธิ์) will serve as the interim successor for the time being.

The Prime Minister’s Office Minister stated that the reason for Mr. Pramote’s transfer was so that he could aid in the unveiling of a new ASEAN television channel.

Mr. Pramote himself stated that he learnt of the matter after members of the press contacted him for questioning. He stated that he will work to his utmost in any government capacity.

Actually sales of luxury cars nose-dived last year. Generals weren't shopping, apparently.

Never mind, the new government will reverse the slump easily.

Chevy, haven't you seen my post where I said that under the junta no one was buying latest black Benzes, literally?

Now they sell only a few hundred of them per year, btw.

I guess sales of Benzes or other luxury cars would be as good a proxy indicator as any as to adherence to "sufficiency economy principles" of HM The King. If what you say is true Plus (and I have no reason to doubt it), then one can see quite easily that the interim military govt. practiced what they preached (up to a point) and there was restraint practiced where personal and state spending on luxury items was concerned. They obviously slipped up over the Defence Ministry budget for new hardware, but all indications are that the Samak/Toxin regime will throw every principle in the "sufficiency economy" book out the window in their frenzied scrabble for personal enrichment, after what has been a lean 18 months for these crooks and their cronies. :o
