Microphone Quality

Featured Replies

When using Skype or MSN for webcam video chat, my sound is difficult to detect. The problem IS at my end as sound checks produce very quiet results. I know nowt about pc mics, but ALL three I have are as bad as each other. One on the webcam, one on the headphone set and one stand alone. What do I need to be looking for with regards to size, spec and cost?

Cheers

First, assuming you're running XP, either double-click the speaker in your system tray, or if there isn't one there go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Volume, Advanced, and then in Volume Control click Options, Properties, Recording, OK, then Options, Advanced, and check your mic level. If you click on the Advanced button at the bottom of the mic channel there's a gain boost check box if you need more gain.

Cheers, Mark. Upon first reading your post, I thought to myself "Yeah, yeah I've done all that." However, I then read it more slowly and followed it. However, I'm not at home, so I'll give it a go and keep my fingers crossed.

No prob. Sorry if it seemed a bit terse, but it was a hard work day ... glad it worked.
