Shipping To Thailand

Featured Replies

I'm not far from selling my house in the UK and retiring in Thailand. I'm looking at shipping some things over and wondered which the best forum is for discussion. I'll be shipping from the UK to Chiang Mai and looking for the cheapest way. Any help would appreciate.

I am not sure on the BEST route to go, but I can warn against the crooks in cutoms here. Some co workers and I were moving over here and wanted to ship our computers over here as they were already set up with all our files for work. We were coming from america so we figured it would be quite costly. We shipped via FedEx and paid around $2,000 US in america. When we called FEdEx here to find out the status of our shipment, they were telling us they would not be able to give us the computers because they said you are not allowed to import computers into thailand and various other run arounds. We tried to explain to them that it was only 3 computers and they were all obviously used and were for personal use. All in all after about a week of ransom demands, they told us they would deliver the boxes for 60,000 baht. So all in all it would have been cheaper to just purchase the computers here and deal with it.

The moral of my story is to examine just how much you need any of your stuff in the UK and how cheap it could be to buy it all here.
