My daughter is traveling to Thailand March 15/08 returning to Canada July 1/08 (3.5 mo. period). Her first stay in Thailand is for 16 days then she leaves Thailand for 24 days on an Indo China trip returning to Thailand for another 66 days. We have been told that during that 66 days she can either apply for a visa in Bangkok for 60 days + 6 day extension OR arrange to leave the country and re-enter to activate another 30 days tourist visa two more times. It all seems so confusing. We have been told she must apply in Canada for the visa and we understood she could apply in Bangkok for the visa. Also, she was told that they would not let her on the flight in Hong Kong to Bangkok if she did not have her visa in hand given her tickets show 3.5 mo. duration. Please advise urgently as time is of essence. Thanks.

1. No visa is available inside Thailand for tourists.

2. Airlines may not allow boarding without a visa in passport due to length of stay.

3. Do not know where "Hong Kong" comes into the picture but if starting gate she should obtain a tourist visa there, or before - it does not have to be obtained in Canada if she is not starting there.

4. As her first entry will only be 16 days she should not enter the visa information on the arrival card and ask to obtain a 30 day stamp for that entry. Normally immigration will do this. Then she can use the tourist visa for a 60 day stay and then extend for the normal 30 days (1,900 extra baht) at an immigration office inside Thailand.

5. In worst case she can use visa for first entry either buy another tourist visa during travel or use 2x30 visa exempt entries and then a 7 day extension of stay to cover the 66 days (or 3x30 visa exempt entries).
