He had a two bed apartment, down stairs shower room, thai kitchen, living room and patio area. It was in a compound well secured. Ten mins from the hospital. He was paying £150 per month. Hua Hin seams to be more secure than Pattaya also cleaner, people also seam to be a little more honest. Look into it. Up to you I would think a similar size house in Pattaya would cost the same. Also some of the Hotels offer good long term stay prices. Dianna Group have some great appartments near Mike Shopping Mall that are cheap. And very nice.
