I was able to connect to the net 2 weeks ago via ethernet cable and adsl router. After having the laptop re-formatted and XP re-installed at a shop, it no longer connects. What settings do I need to change?

Could you please give us more infos?

Are all drivers installed? Special the Network Drivers if you connect the Modem/Router with Network cable. 

What settings you use in the Modem/Router and NIC?

Which ISP?

Sorry! turns out I could connect to the internet for all sites except for hotmail! Works ok now
