Hi.

I have a Non Im B visa and was employed by "company a" until 2 months ago. I've now been offered a different job with "company b" in a different area of work. They are providing me with a work permit, and when I have it (plus all the required company papers etc) I will be heading off to Penang to apply for a new 'B' as my current visa will be expiring shortly - it has already been extented by 3 months.

2 questions here -

1. It is just a simple renewal of my existinting visa but with a different WP and Company?

or is it

2. Start again all over from scratch in applying for a new 'B' visa?

Anything I need to be aware of before I find myself in a mess?!

Cheers

Every visa issue is a new process - visas are never renewed. You may refer to it as that but in fact you have to present supporting documents the first time or the tenth time. Extensions of stay from Immigration are renewed.

I wonder if you are not on overstay. If you job stopped 2 months ago, and your stay was extended around three months ago. Was your stay extended on the basis of your job? Have you left the country since you stopped working?

OK ... it begs the question. Are you on a single entry non-B that has been extended? OR are you on a multi entry non-B that is still valid?

It sounds like a multi-entry visa, otherwise the current yearly (?) extension should have been

cancelled when you left you previous job??

In which case you simply apply for a new multi-entry based on all the paperwork

for your new job.

If your new job offers sufficient salary then you can apply for a new yearly extension

of your current visa based on your new work permit.

It is difficult to tell without all the facts.

I think we need more info from the OP. He says that he visa was just extended for 3 months and that time is almost up. I guess it depends what he means by "extended".

Just to confirm on what the other posters has said.....you need to start the process again....ie out of Thailand with the company paper work get the Non-imm B and back in again...as you are in the system its a pretty staightforward process to get your work permit back...

What would worry me may be the fact that you may be on an over-stay....my understanding, from a company that deals with a lot of work permits in the course of their business is that you have basically 48 hours once your work permit is cancelled to leave the country, as your Non-imm B is tied to your W/P any remaining time on your Non-imm B is invalidated as well...

I know when I moved companies...the W/P was cancelled one day and the next I was in Singapore getting a new Non-imm B...

If left your previous company on good terms sometimes they wont cancel anything until you are ready to move.....
