Embassy of Japan in Thailand

Getting a JP tourist visa for a Thai woman is a pain in the butt to say the least. Especially, if she doesn't have a job to come back to.

Good luck.

pain in the butt in what way? do they have any specific rules on money in the bank, job in thailand, etc, or is it all up to the interviewers (i assume there is an interview) discression?

do you know how much it costs?

thanks steve

I have to admit it was a few years back when I got my business visa for Japan. The cost was about 1100 THB. And it took them four days to grant my visa. So, my experience was probably different.

For tourist visa, the applicant needs to prove to the embassy that (s)he will return to Thailand after the visit. Having a job in Thailand does help. As for financial stuff, I've read it from the embassy's website in Thai version, you can as well be her sponsor. So, she has to submit your statement only.

When I was at the embassy, I saw another Thai woman applying for her tourist visa. She was young, good looking, single and to travel by herself. When she submitted her documents, the staff (a Thai man) asked her loads of questions at super high speed with not-so-pleasant tone. I didn't know if she got her visa as I was called to another window.

Your girlfriend will be travelling with you. So, it shouldn't be the same. Anyone with different experiences please do share.

Believe LC is right that it will be an uphill battle as there is a lot of travel between SEA countries and Japan to work in the nightlife business and many times this is with the help of foreign escorts so application is likely to be very suspect and even if visa granted closely inspected both on leaving Thailand and entry to Japan. But if you have high enough status it might be possible as have no direct knowledge; but be prepared.

You asked if easy? No!

ok thanks, it sounds like it up to the discression of the officer at the embassy. i'll get a letter from hitachi saying i'm working in japan for a week. they can see from my passport that i visit here all the time for a few days then head straight back to thailand.

i guess it can't hurt to try.

I nearly attempted to get JP visa for my gf. Collected all the documents that were:

- a letter from her Uni stating that she is a full time student and since when. (they gave her that and even included that she is "of a good character").

- her house papers (she owns the house)

- My bank account report (an ATM printout would not be enough)

- History of our relationship, hundreds of pictures and emails

- proof of previous joint trips abroad

- my job contract, stating my position and salary

- proof of health/accident insurance (she's on my world-wide 100% coverage)

- my house rental agreement

And there were few more things, can't remember, left the whole envelope at my BKK place.

The visa is for either 2 weeks or for 3 months. The Embassy said it would be quicker to get the 2 weeks one.

Now, that we have a 7 months old baby and I am permanent employee in JP, it should be easier, at least with the baby's birth certificate that shows both of us. Planning to bring her here as soon as she graduates (March 2005), for 3 months. I can't believe she will like it here but let her see.

Although we are not married, she could be entitled to a regular spouse visa as "de facto" and being the mother of our baby.

And yes, JP authorities are very suspicious about Thai girls coming here. How the ###### tens of thousands made it into Japan, don't know.
