James Bond (as played by Roger Moore) previously played Ivanhoe in a long running UK kids series. What was the name of HIS sidekick and what did that actor go on to do?

His sidekick was Robert Brown who played Gurth in Ivanhoe. He later became "M" in a number of James Bond films.

Almost right, but dam_n good. It was Garth, and yes he did go on to more sinister sidekick success. But what about that young guy who rode alongside the Range Rider???

I think you'll find the name was actually GURTH.

The Lone Ranger, Hi OH Silver, WOW, what a great show. Tonto was the best side kick for the Ranger. :o:D:D:D:D

Sidekicks!

Fascinating!

Is this worth a new thread??

Tonto WAS brilliant. Now, we all know the name of the Lone Ranger's horse. But what was the name of Tonto's horse? 10 points for that!!

(Such a shame that soon after the last espisode, the Lone Ranger found out what "Kimma savvy" really meant, and shot Tonto!).

OK, what was the name of the sidekick of the Range Rider? Clue: he always wore black, even tho he was one of the good guys.

James Bond (as played by Roger Moore) previously played Ivanhoe in a long running UK kids series. What was the name of HIS sidekick and what did that actor go on to do?

Who were the comic sidekicks of Tony Hancock and (20 points for this next one) Freddy Frinton? And what did THEY go on to do??

Sorry ZPete! Your English is so good and your posts comprise such common sense I DID mistake you for a Brit.

And, PS, I'm very sorry for what we did to your dairy and lamb industry by joining the wretched Common Market!

I believe the comic sidekicks of Anthony Aloysius Hancock were Sid James,Bill Kerr (both Aussies who found their way on to the British comedy scene in the 1960's)and Hattie Jacques.Sid James and Hattie Jacques were in most of the Carry On films.I think Bill Kerr went back to Oz and became a serious actor.Freddy Frinton - One of his sketches, where he's a paraletic butler,is a standing dish on Dutch T.V. every Christmas. He's definitely a one off!

Very well done! Go to equal top of the class!! The name I was looking for was in fact Sid James who went on to have several series on BBC TV in his own right. The last before he went to the big balcony in the sky was, I believe, 'Bless This House', in which he had a tearaway son who always wore a leather jacket. 20 points for the name of that actor, who was born in India.

Freddy Frinton (his 'sidekick' was a broken cigarette which somehow never fell apart) was indeed brilliant. The Dutch have good taste in many things, not only cheese.

Arthur Haynes? Maybe not as funny, but his sidekick went on to earn substantially more cash than he......... any guesses for 10 points?

Last for tonight, the SWEDES also have excellent taste in English comedy. Their Christmas favourite is a 'modern' silent film entitled 'The Plank'. Who starred in that (and it's a long list)? Especially, who played the part of the truck driver??

Happy viewing!!

Another point of order. :D I'm pretty sure Sid James was born in Johannesberg, South africa.

Jack Benny and Bob Hope were different class but there was a lot of dross that came from the other side of the water later on.Rowan and Martin's Laugh In was very rarely that and Smothers Brothers, except for some good acts, was appalling.

The Family used to watch "The Jackie Gleason Show" together. I was in charge of the aerial antennae positions, I would climb behind the set and start working the "rabbit ears" (sometimes with tin foil or coat hanger extensions. The family would all shout instructions.... " OK, good...no wait back...thats better...a little snowy now...wait wait!!, perfect!!"

After Gleason I would beg and plead to be able to stay up past my bed time to watch "Red Skelton"

"Rowan and Martins Laugh In" was another favorite.

The first television I ever saw was at a friends, it was on a tiny round green screen, lashed together from a radar display I realized later in life when I knew more. I think the program must have been Black Beauty or something like that anyway it was about a horse.

There is a torrent site I’ve found that specializes in UK telly programs both old and new, I think It’s against forum rules to promote other sites but if anyone is interested PM me.

Anybody remember THE most un-PC show ever conceived, the Black and White Minstrel Show with the George Mitchel Minstrels? http://www.museum.tv/archives/etv/B/htmlB/...lackandwhim.htm My gran was glued to it every sunday.

Saw an old Billy Cotton Bandshow (which in its day was good clean family entertainment), it had a WARNING before being aired that the content was considered ok at the time. IIRC it contained references to typecast Italian restaurant proprieters, they looked exactly like all the Italian restaurant owners I met in Italy :o .

That's all very well but, much more importantly, what were the names of their HORSES??

And what was the character name of the side-kick to The Range Rider? You've all glossed over that one, haven't you............???????????

Right everybody.

Delve back into the old memory banks and try to remember the first programmes/series you saw on T.V. I'll start off with SPACE PATROL(1962).One of the first kids puppet series to deal with space travel.Captain Larry Dart and his crew.

Howdy Doody and Colonel Bleep (with side kicks Scratch and Squeak I think) b&w "cartoon" actually stills not really movement just a lotta stills, pre cartoon I'd say.

So I suppose if I mention Wyatt Earp you are going to want to know the name of his horse too ........ :o

Nope! Mainly because I remember him being a city slicker sort of dude, walking around tipping his hat to the ladies and his gun to the men. Don't ever recall him on a horse.

"Wyatt Earp, Wyatt Earp, brave courageous and bold.

Long live his name and long live his glory

And long may his story be told!"

Boom-boom!

called Tony Mercer. The Billy Cotton Bandshow was a big favourite of mine...."Wakey, Waaakeeeey,da dadadaaa......."Lot of artists went on to better things after first appearing in his show.
