Land Transport chief removed

BANGKOK: -- Department of Land Transport Director-General Silapachai Charukasemratana was unexpectedly transferred to an inactive post following a bribe-taking charge Wednesday.

Transport Permanent Secretary Chaisawat Kittipornpaibul said the transfer with immediate effect followed a secret investigation which found evidence that Silapachai took bribes.

"The investigation found complaints of bribery taking from companies which bid for the department's projects," he said.

and the rest of the officials that take bribes!... if they investigated all the people in power.... there would be no one left!!!!!!

A bribe was probably paid to take him out of power so someone else can step in and take the tea money ....

Hmmm....how much do they get paid in an inactive post?

These people belong in prison.

They will get the same salary and benefits as before. Clearly he made the same mistake as Thaksin, his crime was failing to share. In the inactive post he will most likely now work directly for the private sector as a hired lobbyist.

It really pisses me off when I see 'holier-than-thou people ' with their yellow/royal ties and royal badges demonstrating that they love their king and country on the one hand, while plundering and pillaging the country on the other.

These people love one person:- THEMSELVES.

Was he really corrupt or is this simply another transfer disguised with accusations?

Funny how they quickly shove him in an inactive post simply on charges when the PPP themselves have many people in the same position refusing to step aside while under investigations, even giving Apirak a hard time.

It must have something to do with this...

I would think that getting accused of something in Thailand and being transferred to an inactive post is Final Nirvana for Thais, isn't it? All the pay and benefits with no work? It's not punishment--it's a reward.

all the pay and benefits and no work is what the average civil servant does here....

having said that, all the pay for someone like him would probably not be more than 40 to 50K per month...

Actually, I think one of the biggest problems in the world is that in most countries, most of the time, you do not go to jail for taking bribes.

It always seems that the person giving the bribes goes to jail but the government official rarely does :o

Do these guys in Thailand stay on the inactive post forever, or just until they are found guilty and then they lose the inactive post also?

He may get his 50K per month now, but probably losing millions in bribes since he is no longer in charge.

Still, I'm sure they get to keep most of the money they accumulated in bribes over the years. A little loss of face and then you can go on living as a rich man with stolen money. :D

This story gives me a strange feeling of 'deja vu' ? Wasn't there a similar case a couple of years ago ? :o
