What Do You Prefer?

Hey everybody,

I'm new to this forum and thought this might be the place to ask you ladies!

I was wondering what you all prefer, I saw some topics about waxing but I noticed since living in thailand that even shaving my legs causes irritation [red and iching...] let alone ohter parts! Would it be better to wax or has anybody got some other advice?

:o

dunno, i have the same problem but can't stand the thought of growing my hair out long enough to wax. many girls where i live seem to get infected hair follicles (abscesses!) lately too so shaving isn't a great option.

One of the ladies uses an epilator (Sheryl maybe?) and loves it. I am seriously considering giving that a try.

I use Nair, buy it in the US and bring it back. But on my last trip to the big city (koh Samui :o) I noticed Boots selling a hair removal product.

i use emjoy gently gold(! - gentle, yeah right) only on my underarms. the rest i get waxed. wouldnt have it any other way. you have to luffah reguarly to stop ingrown hairs, but its great.

Untill now I always sticked to shaving as well...

Maybe it is time for the epilady, allthough I saw one of the girls with an awfull scar due to the ingrow of hair...

well I guess having to shave and have some red dots on your legs for a day isnt the end of the world but still good to hear that Boots is selling some good products, haven't been there in a while [same same SBK, next time im in the big city! :o ]

I've been waxing for the last 8 years and am horrified to even consider shaving again. The prickly regrowth is disgusting :D:o The regrowth after waxing is much finer and doesn't need to be that long to wax it off. I go to a place at MBK that is quite cheap (200bt underarms and 400 for half legs) and super quick and effective. I can even get away with plucking out my leg hair now as it is so sparse these days, unfortunately not so for underarms. I find epilady's excrutiating :D

I hate those red bumps I get after shaving!

I have also been thinking of waxing my legs instead...but I'm afraid of how much it will hurt...

I have had 2 laser surgeries...and far and for me, they were not worth it. My hair still grows back about the same amount it did before and it was very expensive. Maybe if I had more treatments, it would have gotten better, but I just don't have that kind of money.

how expensive is the laser? can anyone recommend a good place to try it?

I had mine done in the US, and it was about $200 per full leg. I am not sure how much it would cost in Thailand though...I would assume it would be cheaper. I don't know of any places, but I am sure there are some places in bangkok for that kind of thing.

I find the, quickest, least trouble and least invasive is just shaving when I shower with a good razor and not forgetting to change the blade from time to time. Never had any irritation, I think it's important that the blade is new and sharp.

are they pricey, zaza?

No,dear :D . They aren't that pricey at all. You could go for a full body hair removal by Gentle Yag or Cool Glide laser(depends on the color, strength of your hair and it's density on the areas that you wish to remove from) for (70-80)k Baht for several (3-5) sessions' package in Yanhee Hospital or even (8) sessions' package in SiamLaser Clinic. You can check both places; in Yanhee; you would get cheaper prices for sure, but in Siam clinic you would find better results, IMHO.

I think there is a 50% discount promotion in Siamlaser Clinic if you undergo this treatment now(they had sent a text msg to my mobile last month of this new promotion, but pity I can't take advantage of this privilege anymore :o ).

Ditto to Sheryl too. It worth it and it is more efficient than waxing which was the only method I had used through out my whole life. Never to mention the less hassle and repeated pain that you could avoid by doing laser hair removal .

P.S. Sorry for the late reply but I just signed in TV forum .

Well I do all that sharp blades, good lotion etc.

Red bumps prob. from sun, sea, sand etc...

IME the waxing atleast where I tried it, with hotwax [Painfull!! Puffing like when giving birth!]

and after an hour and a half, with red skin and still hair on it on some places...

But I'm willing to give it another shot, different place and no hot wax for me anymore!

With laser, it will need at least 5 sessions, 2 months apart, this is because hair grows in 2 month cycles. You won't see the difference after only 1-2 treatments; some hairs will have been destroyed but most not yet. Some people need more than 5 treatments, altho they will see noticeable improvement after 3-4 times.

It is really not all that expensive when you compare against the cost iof repeated waxing etc. Purchase a package iof 5 treatemnts rather than paying for each time as this represents quite a saving and will also motiovate you not to miss appointments,

oh i forgot to mention i bought some hair removal cream in argentina that i leave on for 10 minutes. it breaks the hair down, and then when i shave it comes off very quickly and smoothly with no irritation. i think they sell something similar in boots.

When I was a teenager my mother bought me a special mitten that you rubbed up and down your legs. I think it was made of very fine sandpaper and it buffed off the hair and all the old skin so my legs were always smooth.

Now after so many years of waxing just a few hairs grow back under my arms. My legs are still very spiky but at least the hair comes out very easily now and is not painful at all. The first few years of leg waxing were agony and unfortunately the bikini line still brings tears to my eyes :o

Laser sounds good though...does it hurt? I'd be a bit worried about someone aiming a laser at my pink bits!

Laser doesn't hurt too bad. Of course, in the bikini area it hurts a bit more, but overall, I would say that Laser is not as painful as waxing. It feels like just a really quick sting and then you smell burning hair...sounds unpleasant but they apply aloe on your skin afterwards which helps a lot. I didn't think it was that painful, and it is probably worth it for most people (if you get the certain amount of treatments.)

I use Veet which I buy in Singapore. Its a hair removal cream and after using it for a few times I find the regrowth is very soft and fine - not prickly like I found waxing to be. They dont stock it in Thailand yet and I tried the Boots hair removal cream which I found very very ineffective.

With Veet you only leave it on for 3 mins then use a shower ball to remove the cream and the hair. So much smoother than shaving AND my husband now uses it on his face every 3 or 4 days as opposed to shaving everyday :o

I got waxed today, so to be more specific the one I went to was on the 4th level of MBK outside the mass mobile phone area on the left side looking toward the phones. It's a quite large blue place called Porntips (Beauty Therapy I think) and they're very popular for facials and foot massages. Underarms were only 150 baht and half leg 400 baht. Don't expect the Ritz out the back where they wax you, but it's clean, fast, almost painless (for me anyway!) and best of all super cheap!

I agree with you it's super cheap but if you do the expenses' calculation's right you would be surprised how much you'd save along the years ,not to mention the amount of pain and the embarrassment of unwanted hair that you should wait till it grows back again to be waxed.

you had mentioned:

[150(underarms) + 400(half legs) + (??) tip + transportation + pain + re-growth time] X 12 times every year = the same exact payment for laser treatments to those certain areas if you would save spending on wax for (3 years)

Not wishing to be too bold, but I have a VERY rough tongue...

Yes, agree Suegha.

Waxing. Swear by it. I use a silky cornstarch to calm and smooth everything down afterwards, and this prevents bumps.

I would be terribly afraid to use hair removal cream on my nether regions.

I'm another Emjoli depilator fan. I can't use chemical hair removers at all. They give me burns on my skin long before they make the hair removable. I don't live in BKK so don't have fast and easy access to laser, which frankly I'd love. I might be able to get waxing done someplace in town here, but I'd rather spend the money on something more interesting.
