Can't Get Adsl - What's The Next Best Thing?

Featured Replies

I currently use ADSL through TOT but I am moving to an area in Si Racha where they say they cannot connect me as it is too far away from the exchange. Some people in the village have TOT but they no longer connect new customers as the service is not consistent. There is a waiting list for TT&T. I have been advised to try Hutch but just wondered if there were any other companies available - I am mainly worried if I can get a connection good enough for skype and for downloading music (etc)

All help greatly appreciated :o

May you try GPRS/EDGE. Check out with some local shop, which is selling the required hardware, the avaibility of the service. Don't even think about IP-Star, it's crap!!

Cheers.

Hi

Try CAT CDMA USB modem

Hi

Try CAT CDMA USB modem

CAT does not cover Sri Racha, the Eastern Seaboard is exclusive Hutch area!

I'm pretty sure Hutch only has CDMA 1X service in Sri Racha, which would limit your download link to around 150 kbps. In general you're better of with GPRS/EDGE, which you'll definitely get in Sri Racha which has a theoretical top speed of around 240kbps.

Dtac will roll out it's 3G HSPA network in Phuket and Chonburi provinces, whenever this service is up and running you'll get better speeds then ADSL (I think the version they will use allows a theoretical top speed of 14 mbps).

This should happen in the very near future!

---EDIT---

just checked the website from Hutch and it seems they do have EV-DO in some area's over there. Their shop is in Pacific Park Sri Racha. On this system you can expect downloads at around 400 - 800 kbps!

I have used many 3G networks around the world never seen any that comes anywhere close to landline based ADSL. I can't imagine the Thai version will be much better than the current EDGE/GPRS......I hope I am wrong tho :o

Anyone watch BBC 'Click' last night ??

The new Sat internet was 18mb, now that was fast wonder if speeds like this will ever come to Thailand?

What's the next best thing? Finding a house which has DSL service. You are going to be very, very disappointed with the alternatives; none of which will consistenly support your stated applications.
