Observation On Download Speeds During Songkran

Featured Replies

I have not used BitTorrent etc much in the past, I rarely watch anything on TV and movies bore me senseless usually but I was trying to download a few legal documentaries and music samplers and for whatever reason during Songkran my down speeds increased by a factor of 100 or more.

I am using Transmission on a mac and usually see speeds of 3-6K in the download, but during Songkran they shot up to 140-160K. My upload speed is throttled to 30K but if I change that it will always use the maximum available

I am guessing it is because all the govt. offices were closed! :o

My connection was noticeably faster over Songkran. Its back down the toilet now though.

...so it was not only me...great speed indeed, suddenly I see the advantage of Songkran! :o

Yep, it sure was crazy. I was getting 130 k bytes/s from one torrent - "Surface series 1". I initially just wanted the last few episodes that I missed, but as it was coming down so fast I decided to get the lot. Same thing happened at the 'other' New Year.

And now it's back to it's normal crap speed.

I wonder if their "anti-P2P" s/w crashed and there was nobody on duty to reboot it?

My ToT 2048/1024 is like clockwork Songkran or not, 3 to 6 k sec in daytime, 203 k/sec. kicks in at 2 am and stops around 7 30 a.m. :o I was told by them this is normal year round. :D

After my last experience with customer service and the know-it-all tech who had to come back 3 times and thought an imitation jet pilot's uniform gave him superiority over all customers even though he climbed up a bamboo ladder, I won't bother calling at all, next time will be to disconnect when we move out of here. :D

Same experience here...now it is slowing down again. I also use transmission on the Mac.

on BT a lot depends on the seed/leech ratio so it's hard to know gage..

i liked transmission for the simple interface, but it downloaded a lot slower than azureus. the only problem with azureus/Mac (not windows) seems to be that the actual upload is 50% more than what it says... e.g. measured with Activity Monitor the upload rate is way higher than what Azureus claims it is. I filed a bug on it...
