My first post here, after reading the reponses to this article I decided to post one too.

This article was only posted in one paper "The Nation" since then it has been picked up by foreign media. The Bangkok Post never covered this article as far as checking the archives has revealed. Would you not think that if there was any veracity to the story, every major media outlet in Thailand would cover it ????

The guys age and the amount he paid the girls and the number of girls changes with every article.

But to echo an earlier post...

A 53 or 56 yo one legged german with an HIV + wife is cruising the schools and Karaoke bars for young girls to have sex with has gone unnoticed for 3 years in a relatively small community....???

On a disability pension....and no other visible means of support he is paying these girls 1500 baht to 5000 baht a time to have sex with him...In an area where you can get sex for around 500 baht....??? Depending on which report you read, he has spent from 135,000 baht to 5,000,000 baht doing this on a disability pension.???

He has been caught for an overstay of visa...facing definate deportation and banning from the country for a number of years. He has little to no chance of ever getting back into the country, What has he got to lose ???

His attitude to Thai women, Witches and monkeys and the comment "I am a playboy and they like rich men". Does this sound like a comment from someone who has spent 9 years in the country on and off and the last 3 years at least full time.

If there is any truth in the story, He will face charges on return to Germany that will see him spend a lot of time in jail. Most countries have a 16yo limit on consensual sex while overseas.

In an area as small as Chaiyaphum, I would suggest that a guy of his stand out features with an AIDS infected wife, would not be able to trawl the way he claims for 3 years without some local Thai daddy punching his lights out or worse. We all know how fast gossip spreads in rural Thailand and with the wifes family and neighbours knowing of his actions, it makes it less likely that this could happen.

Yes, but not necessarily. The Post has, since it's editor resigned/forced out, is becoming increasingly "soft." Many times if one reads both papers when they do report on the same subject can come out with totally polar impressions. I think the Post is becoming more and more "cozy" with the government. I can easily see how they may want to avoid this news item as too controversial for any number of reasons.

Not unheard of in ANY widely covered news article when multiple news sources are involved. However, I really haven't seen any truly significant discrepancies. Is 53 really that much different than 55?

There is a difference between unnoticed and tolerated. It's within belief that he was tolerated, given the custom of non-intervention as well as, however distorted belief it may be by Western standards, thinking by locals that he was providing money to people who needed it.

You might be surprised to know exactly what a Western pension, especially a disability one, can provide in terms of Thai money. By many standards, he could be classified as, being an amputee, having a 100% rated disability. If he was, for example, an American military disabled vet, he'd receive 86,300 baht a month. Additionally as we're not aware how he lost the leg, it's certainly possible that he could have received a large settlement initially at the time via the courts for it.

Sad to say, but most definitely it could be. One needs only spend a little bit of time in these forums or observing foreigners living here to find similiar or even more outrageous commentaries.

At this point, I think it's still prudent to wait and see how it develops...it's certainly possible that it could have been happened as reported. As for probable, I believe

it's somewhere in the middle... some of it true, some of it exaggerated. Most likely I think is that he did do it, just perhaps not as many girls were involved as reported.

Just to let you know.....I have been to Thailand many times and have spent a lot of time staying in rural areas.

This story maybe subject to speculation as precise details are not known.......But parents are parents everywhere and I just dont buy it when people say that the Thais would sell a daughter to a guy with an AIDS infected wife. Even the ever tolerant Thais have a limit....Nor do I believe that they would be non confrontational if faced with the idea that this guy had given their 15yo daughter AIDS.

You're right, provided that they knew beforehand about their daughter being HIV+ , but it seems all this has come out only very recently.

I also wouldn't doubt that the parents didn't know until now if their daughters had even been with them. Teenagers the world over can be very secretive with their parents. I think the case is more of a situation where the girls made their own decision to go with him and not one where the parents had "sold" them to him.

Thai police say the 54-year-old, who claims to be infected with HIV and claims that he had unprotected sex with hundreds of Thais, was remanded in custody last month on immigration charges.

Health officials, police and prosecutors say they are powerless to charge him over his sexual activities.

More than one million people in Thailand are infected with HIV.

The first case was reported there 20 years ago.
