Axen Air Card Net Connection With Pay As You Go Sim?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have an Axen Aircard (about 2 years old) & I used to have an account specific for this with DTAC, I was not using it very much it was only an emergency back up in case broadband crashed, so I closed account on it.

I wanted to find out, (I do seem to recall getting this to work along time back, admittedly it was a very very slow connection but at least allowed me to download emails & upload)...

Can I use this Axan Aircard (even though originally it came with DTAC SIM), & say pop in my AIS 1-2 Call Pay as You Go, SIM from from my mobile phone & use the Aircard with this to dial up to get internet connection to down load emails. (I am going to be away from any normal internet or net cafe & have important few emails I have to reply to, so only way will be to haul notebook along, & try to use the aircard wtih 1-2 call mobile phone AIS sim I have. pay as you go).

Is there an optimal way of doing this, so it works best?

Any tips to make download or if i have to access web work fast as possible? ( I assume out in country side it will be slower, than say in a few KM outside Pattyaya area??)

With this sort of connection, as i am hoping to use, is there anyway it could support a Skype call? (or would that just be too much for it to power?)

Thanks

Gerry

I'd suspect that it is not EDGE capable. GPRS alone is VERY slow. It's possible that it is locked to D-Tac but I doubt it. Just put in your AIS SIM card and try it.

I looked at a new Axen aircard just yesterday in a DTAC store. Doubt it's the same one you have, but fyi, that aircard 1) is EDGE enabled, and 2) is locked to DTAC/Axen.

Saw it at the DTAC store in Siam Paragorn, if you want to check it out... didn't buy, it was 9800 baht (came with 6 months unlimited usage).
