พรรณ - สีของผิว ; ชนิด จำพวก

พันธุ์ - พวกพ้อง, พี่น้อง, วงศ์; เทือกเถา, เหล่ากอ; พืช

so it's just like when u say พืชพรรณ or พรรณไม้ u mean all kinds of trees

Ex . ในป่าแห่งนี้มีพืชพรรณหลากหลาย

but พันธุ์ไม้ just like พันธุ์ไม้สัก, พันธุ์กล้วยไม้ [strain] need to specify name of the strain sometimes
