The Decline of Free Speech: How the UK Became a Third-Class Nation
Put what to the test? I have deliberately not commented on the length of sentences imposed as I have mixed feelings about them. You argue that these are "just words". What if some deranged maniac tried to act upon this "advice" and try to execute Farage. Should "I didn't think that anyone would take me seriously. I didn't mean that Farage should actually be executed", be an acceptable defence and free the petitioner of all responsibility? My point - and only point - is that words may have consequences and that individuals need to be accountable and responsible for their words. -

Day-to-day life in Myanmar
I can remember remarking there seemed to be no motorbikes in Yangon, only to be told the junta had banned them for fear of assassination. The junta also decreed vehicles should drive on the right, to shed the links with its British colonial past. Then stopped the importation of cheap second hand right-hand drive vehicles from Japan. So now there's a mix of RHD and LHD cars driving on the RHS, in what can only be described as a cluster you know what. Many fond memories of the Burmese people, their wages are a third of what they earn working in Thailand. Aung Sang Suu Khy is still deeply revered, referred to as "The Lady". A lot of intermarriage of Indians and Burmese in Yangon, the mix produces some stunningly beautiful women. Photo is one of the oldest Toyotas I have seen, I think pre WWII. -

Calls for a New Election Surge Amidst Labour's Challenges
If their policies prove to be carnage they will be voted out at the next election. That's how it works. However, the short-term pain being felt by some now will hopefully be in the dim & distant past, if they successfully turn the economy around. I seem to remember Thatcher was hugely unpopular in her first few years (rightly so) but she managed to win two more terms. Hopefully, Starmer won't need a Falklands war though... -

Must Read British tourist dodges death after toxic night at Laos hostel (video)
I know the taste of the spirits I drink and that is why I will find out within one zip if it is real or fake. When one is used to drink low-end stuff where the taste is not great to start with, I can imaging it is more difficult to tell. -
