I'm looking to buy a TrueHD/full hd 46-50 inch Lcd tv.

When I look at Ebay (US) they have many great

tv's and some of them go for half the price they

are being sold for in Thailand. I would love to buy

a TV from ebay but no one will ship these huge tvs

overseas and I also heard that the taxes here in Thailand

are insane when buying tvs overseas. Do any of you have

any advice of how to buy lcd tvs for similar prices here in

Thailand or online and is it possible somehow to avoid the

crazy taxes ?

Best way is to ask the seller to dismantle the tv and send it over piece by piece in seperate envelopes. After recieving all the pieces get it assembled again here in thailand. :o

I actually had someone tell me the other day that TV's were cheaper here !!!

Sure if you want the lowest end clone market.. Try 46 - 60 inch 1080 models.. You almost cant even find them and 180 - 300k asking prices !!

LOL :D

But will they play here?

Thailand broadcasts on the PAL standard and US televisions use the NTSC standard. Plus, you will need to be sure to use a power conversion to switch the local 220v current to 110v for a US television.

Which models are you looking at? What prices are you seeing? What is your price-point? Currency?

I just did a quick glance at eBay (completed items) and Circuit City and did not see a huge price difference. when you factor in the shipping. A lot of the eBay TVs are for pick-up only; that means you need to arrange shipment/delivery.

I only looked at one on-line store in Thailand and the 46" LCD prices looked like 2x when compared with the U.S.A. Smaller sizes seemed a lot closer in price? Maybe the smaller sizes are assembled here and the larger sizes imported?

Its to do with volume of sales is my guess... Not too many people drop the money on a 60 inch true 1080 panel here.. Those kind of ones end up being 3x or more..

Most electronics are rated for 110-220. Yes - u will need a PAL signal converter for some odd reason yanks dont put dual signals in their teles like most of the world does. :o

Maybe for camcorders, notebooks, cameras and the like, but I have yet to see a Stateside TV with dual voltage. There's just no point in having that option for something hardly portable (like a 46" TV) and designed for just one (US) market.

Any hidef panel worth its salt will be multi source..

Of course your not going to run composite into a set like that anyway are you.. Get a HiDef upscaling sat STB.

If you want to buy at the realy lowest price just wait for the next commart expo. There has just finished one in bangkok but there are 5 or 6 during the year all over thailand.Do a google for commart 2008 and you will find the homepage. No prices published on the webpage but I guarantee that it is by far the lowest price in thailand.

I bought there last year a lg 42" plasma for 29900 baht which sold at that time everywhere else at 49000.

Ofcourse there will be plasma's and lcd's in that price range now,Tv's get cheaper all the time but I bought at that price 8 months ago.

By the way my mate bought at the same expo a 60" for 99000 baht new in the box.

Because we are the US! :D We can't even use the metric system.

Seriously though, I do not think there are any US TV makers left. You probably need to blame the Japanese for not putting dual converters in the TVs for the US, really all North America. Probably has something to do with the power being 110v also. I have a Toshiba in the US, and it does not do 110-220, only 110.

The US is a big market. They can make one with only NTSC, and 110v cheaper than one that is PAL/NTSC and 110v/220v. Probably part of the reason why they are cheaper in the US. :o
