I recently had to renew my old passport as it was full up; the process is ongoing. But one question I have is do I get a new passport number, and how does this affect the following?

1. Visa status (have been told to transfer to new passport at Suan Phlu).

2. Thai drivers licence: this 5-year licence has my old number on it.

3. All WP-related paperwork.

4. Incidental stuff like ownership documents for car (has old number on loan agreement); wedding certificates; etc.

5. Banks, credit card companies, etc.

Guess the answer to all this is to notify the people/departments concerned, but has anyone had to jump through similar hoops?

Many thanks.

Most passports seem to have new numbers but don't know what your country policy is.

1. Visa can not be transferred. Only current permitted to stay stamp or extension of stay will be transferred. Visa will still be valid using both passports.

2. Change when change due I would suspect. My license is 38 years old and have not bothered to change.

3. No knowledge but suspect on next visit should update.

4. Should not be a problem and do not believe there is any way to update marriage certificate and such.

5. Bank will update on next passbook issue - they often seem unaware that new passports have a different number (although Thai passports do).

Yep agree with lop ^^^

1. They will transfer your current permit to stay to your new PP (and use up two pages in the process). Any VISA in the old PP remains valid, just present both passports to immigration.

2. The number on your licence is their key to finding your records, the nice lady at the licencing office told me to keep a copy of my old PP so they can locate the records (my 5 year licence expires after my PP)

3. No knowledge, as lop suggests update on next visit

4. Keep copies of old passport.

5. Update on new passbook, no idea about credit cards.
