No you can't, nor can you download patches or get at the downloadable content that is on the way. The multiplayer sounds amazing, can't wait to get on-line and try it out.

Indeed it is getting fantastic reviews. Hundreds of people have spent years putting together a masterpiece which can keep you entertained for 50-100 hours; then someone steals it and complains about the graphics....

But can you play multiplayer with a cracked game?

It's getting great reviews, www.metacritic.com, average of 100%!

You can pre-order a copy with Nadz project (1800 bht) , but they said it may not arrive till Friday.

Top Dogger! Where are they located? The sites in Thai.

I am still on live and have been on live since 06 with a flashed console and have not yet been banned. All downloads, patches, dashboard updates, etc everything works still.

I dont play much online myself.. If I did I would buy the legit disc for that title that I wished to play online..

Of course now I typed this I will probably get a banhammer this week :o but to be honest at the game price its worth 2 consoles.. One for online play and one for offline play. I was actually thinking of 3 consoles for some bedrooms as I use the 360 as a vista media center extender almost as much as I use it for gaming.

I haven't been caught for customs yet from a Play Asia order. Which probably means I will get hammered on this order! But this time I am using courier delivery because I really NEED this game (!), so hopefully that will decrease the likelihood of it being stopped for duty. To be honest I don't really care, I just want to start playing it now. Ten minutes ago it was at Hong Kong airport, not that I am tracking it or anything....

Have to admit to an especial interest in this title, my son worked with Rockstar to implement Euphoria in the game, so I want to see his name in the credits! He got a free Special Edition yesterday and is off to the Rockstar North launch party tomorrow, I am hoping for some freebies!

Mine left Play-Asia by courier this morning :o ; they seem to have copies available.

How much damage are customs likely to do?

As for the question about where Nadz is located, I'm not exactly sure, but someone else might know. But they said they can post it to my door for 80 baht and it would arrive on friday, you can send an e-mail and they speak english.

Also, I ordered a game from play asia and they stung me about 300 baht for tax (hadn't done previously) It seems to be random when they do it.

I got a modded copy at Fortune IT mall on Friday...its a wicked game, loads to do....graphics could be a bit better and I'd like to be able to enter more buildings but apart from that its awesome. No online for me cos Ive been banned since last November but from what Ive read in the official Xbox forums the online part is a complete mess at the moment and crashing all the time, but this is to be expected and anyways the single player mode will last you ages...Ive hardly done any of the main missions as Ive been doing loads of side missions.

LivinLOS! How come yr not banned!!! Since the last ban wave last Nov Ive heard that they got most modders.....do you burn your disks yourself?

Posted

I am guessing I am not banned as I am not a big online player.. And when I wanted to online play (halo) I bought a second hand legit disc.

I also set my router to block my 360 for the internet unless I unblock.. so not accidentally online while playing..

Just lucky and a mostly offline useage profile..

Hi,

I am considering buying a 360 or PS3 just for GTA4...

What console do you think would be the better choice?

Im leaning toward the Xbox as I had the original and the online multiplayer was great. Is the online multiplayer still better with Xbox or is PS3 up there too?

Also with the 360, how can you check if the machine is one of the later built with the improved heatsink?

Thanks in Advance.

I'd go for the PS3 version because 2008 will be the year when PS3 overtakes Xbox360 and then the tide will turn as more games being developed first on PS3 instead of Xbox360.

Haze, Metal gear Solid & Killzone 2 are all out his year as well

PS3 is also the best Blu ray player out there

I have to pay duty every time I import something via Play-Asia, its usually about 500-600 Baht.

I also had a note from play-asia that my 360 version of this game shipped yesterday, but upon further inquiry it hadn't left HK until this morning, so I will not be able to take delivery of it until Friday because it arrives in TH during the public holiday tomorrow.

As for the PS3 vs 360 questions, it doesn't matter both will be good, its whatever you prefer, but I don't see the PS3 over taking anything, especially when it comes to online play, xbox live is excellent.

The PS3 is also not as easy to code to for, and that means fewer games. That's not fan boy spiel either, even the creator of Metal Gear Solid is apparently disappointed with how the game turned out, due to the PS3's 'limitations' (see below)

Looks like Kojima Jr. isn't the only one disappointed with Metal Gear Solid. The latest issue of the UK's Edge magazine contains an interview with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, who expresses disappointment with the latest game in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It isn't so much the gameplay itself as it is the graphics.

"Game-wise, it's pretty close to the original vision: you sneak into the battlefield and can choose whether to do a stealth game or interfere with the battle more directly. But the graphic, side things like motion-blending and the size of the map, totally was not accomplished to my original vision - to my satisfaction.

Now Kojima is a well-known perfectionist, but it is a bit disturbing to see him voice his dissatisfaction with what is supposed to be the masterpiece of the franchise. So where does he lay the blame for not fully realizing his vision?

"When we first showed the game engine at TGS, the staff were really proud and happy. PS3 was a dream machine, y'know, and we were going to work on this and that - and we had so many ideas. But when we actually started developing the game, we realized there were a lot of restrictions and so it turned out how you see it today. The original vision was to go ten steps further, the reality was just one step, which isn't to say we didn't progress.

So there was certainly progress made, but not enough progress...or more specifically, not enough power for progress. Apparently the team overestimated what the PlayStation 3 was capable of.

I remember saying three years ago that we wanted to create something revolutionary, but in reality we couldn't really do that because of the CPU. We're using the Cell engine to its limit., actually. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the PS3 machine, it's just that we weren't really aware of what the full-spec PS3 offered - we were creating something we couldn't entirely see.

Yes the PS3 is a great Blue Ray player, nobody will argue with that its the best blue ray player on the planet right now for the money, its just that it hardly has any decent games. So if you are looking for a blu ray player that you can also use to play games, then the PS3 is a fine choice.

Yeah, I got caught for 542 baht duty. Package left Play Asia yesterday afternoon and arrived at my condo in Jomtien at 1530 today. Time to fire up the Xbox (not literally I hope!)

Well, if you want to know what system it's best for, this is from the IGN review:

"For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud."

So there's not much in it. As for online gaming, as most xbox live players are based in america and europe, I have had a lot less lag with my ps3 (since i replaced my xbox that overheated). Online is great on cod4, and any other game, it doesn't really matter what system, in my experience. But you will have the most joy if you play people from around your location. My friend list is full now with people from thailand, so I know that it will be smooth online if I play a game with them.

Blue-ray would be good but I want to buy a system, which is best for the games and online play...

Is the online play with Xbox live and PS3 comparable?

With the original Xbox, live was great... I thought PS2 online wasn't as good. Have they improved for the PS3?

Posted

They are comparable, I never played ps2 online, but I found no real difference between xbox 360 live and psn network. I think there is more movies and stuff available to download on xboxlive, but I'm only really interested in the online game quality (which in Asia, I've had more lag-free games on ps3) They have just revamped the psn anyway, and there are some demo's and stuff available. Home is coming this year too for ps3, which is like an online world, or something!

I had 3 unmodded 360s RROD on me before I found a place to have them fixed. Was so peeved at MS I decided to have them chipped and soon got banned from Xbox Live

Since then I've been playing online PS3 games and 9 times out of 10 the games are lag-free and much soother than xbox live. I think the reason for this is that I stick to playing people in SE Asia. There are MANY more SE Asia PS3 players than Xbox 360 hence more local games to join.

I think by years end Microsoft will be in 3rd place, Sony 2nd and Nintendo will remain king of hardware (but not software sales). Developers are now getting to grips with PS3

Thanks guys...

I think I will take a good look at the PS3 now.

Can anyone give some feedback on the multiplayer GTA4 with the PS3, playing from Thailand?

Also, I have a Maxnet adsl 1GB connection. Is that enough for lag-free online play?

Thanks :o

The topic has now gone full circle! Has anyone got this game yet? Anyone tried multiplayer?

I will let you know as soon as the game gets to me!

I think 1gb will be fine, as long as your upload speed is at least 512kb. But still, online outside of asia, you will usually get lag. So it's best to stick within asian region. You can add me for some gta if you get one! id Thaicowman. There's more at the top of this forum.

Thanks Cowman...

Yeah I just realised the topic was for 'is GTA4 available yet'.... Will have to wait and see how it is once people have played it.

Off topic, but...

With the PS3 online play, what games do you play? Is the Tom Clancy and Medal of Honour games good on the PS3? Are you able to talk with the other players?

Lock Ups - For some reason it's the internet connection causing this. Rockstar recommend disconnecting from multiplayer for a fix. Failing that, reformat HDD. Only the earlier 60Gb models seem to have issues. Though nothing on the scale of Halo 3 and scratchin'.

Safe 360's have an MFD date AFTER November 2007 containing larger heatsink and less heat build up.

360 can be stealth modded for xbox live. PS3 has no mod and games are full priced.

Nadz is an honest dealer, after dealing with SaphanLek, that makes a good change.

The office tower is at the bottom end of Silom, SP or SK 1 tower. It's on the junction of Silom and .....large road that intersects silom and sathon (cant remember the name)!!!! Ask the guard there for the floor and room number.

Looks like PS3 running at reduced rez with lockups and online play problems..

360 version locks up too I'm afraid

I've had the 360 version of GTA 4 for a week and get the occasional lockup (have to turn off the console as no dashboard comes up) on that too. Also get very rare graphic tearing at the top of the screen during the loading screens but that is nothing.

Might be heat related on 360 I reckon

Its a wicked game, I cant play online but dont really care right now as the single player is gonna last me at least 30+ hours at this rate.

As for lag on Xbox live, I found that it depended on the games, some games such as COD3+4 and Halo 3 were usually ok for me even playing people in UK/USA but then other games would be terrible. Probably best to stay off gta multiplayer for a week or so as the new games are always packed after launch.

And for those who have Gta4... "Alpha baby! Alpha!" :o

The PS3 version has the slightest visual edge, plus motion-control support -- but then it's missing Achievements and the eventual downloadable episodes exclusive to the 360 game

360 currently has a way better online service, BUT I would go for BOTH consoles :o
