The problem is, in a nutshell, that Thais are too rich. The solution: Make them poorer.

Cars already cost 2.3 billion times a family income for six generations yet somehow they manage to afford them. The solution is a 20 million % increase in car prices. If a car costs more than the entire GDP of South East Asia, Thais may think twice before buying one.

Of course this won’t deter the majority of Thais as they vie to improve face and are happy to accumulate debts that will take several millennia to pay off.

No doubt Bangkok ranks among the top with regard to congestion. However, this article provides no documentation whatsoever to back-up the claim that is #1 in gridlock, unless there is more to the story than you have posted.

Ten to fifteen years ago this report would have been ok. Bangkok is

nowhere near as bad today. Remember the pee bottles the taxi drivers

used to sell to their passengers for Bt20 :o doubt any carry them now.

Naka.

Agreed. This report seems well out of date. Manila (or anywhere else in PI), always seems ten times worse than Bkk.

Agreed that this is no longer the case. Sure there are traffic jams sometimes, but "gridlock" is actually an extreme situation, and I've never seen that here. Have you tried driving around Mumbai lately? You'll love BKK in comparison!
