Hi there... :D

I am new in here, just joined today, so please forgive me if I ask something that might have been asked or answered before in here, I just need some HELP and somebody, on a nother website was recommending me to write in here !!

As I read the advices to this forum, let me just short introduce the few points about me :

1) I am 36 years and from Denmark 2) I am married to a thai, marriage-certificate and living here in Chiang Rai, Thailand 3) I have been in Thailand for more than 2 years now and I am now on a tourist-visa - with the expiry-date 22. MAY 2008, this is the LAST tourist-visa I can get.... 3 X 30 days right ? Here is my question..... :

As for my understanding, and as what the immigration-offices - 2 different places - have told us, a DEMAND for getting a 1 year, visa "o" ("marriage-visa"), they require us to have an income of at least 40.000 baht a month, which we do NOT have at all......I actually have almost ZERO money!! :D And since it seems like "money talks" here in Thailand, when talk about getting a visa, what should I do then ??

Another thing is that we have also been told, by immigration-office, that you can ONLY get a stamp - 3 months - for applying for "marriage-visa" (even we know that of course we cannot get one, because of that STUPID money-demand rule.......), 1 stamp (3 months) every 12 month. And see that is the problem, because I got one of these in december 2007 in Laos, Savannakhet...... - what should I do now, where should I go ?? :D

I really hope somebody has a good advice for me what to do, because I am pretty worried and headache, if it just means "goodbye Thailand" because of some stupid visa-laws, I have done NO crime here or anything, only "crime" is that I dont have much money or 40.000 baht a month !!! We are "simple people" and live for less than 10.000 baht a month, 2 persons and we are okay.....my bank account is pretty small, probably about 10.000 baht as well - but for me, money is NOT the most important in life....but the problem is, that for Thai immigration it seems to be the only worth counting thing :o:D

Greetings from Chiang Rai (Northern-Thailand)

I expect you would have the same problem in just about any other country if you can not provide an income. So the expectation would be that you would move to a place you can obtain an income. If you want to continue to live in Thailand it is going to be relatively costly, and probably difficult.

1. You seem to have used 30 day visa exempt entry stamps rather than tourist visa. Denmark receives a 60 day entry on a tourist visa which can be extended 30 days. But visa exempt entry (cross border/return) is limited to 90 days in a six month period.

2. You can get a 60 day one time extension of stay from Immigration at cost of 1,900 baht.

3. You can obtain and use tourist or non immigrant O visas from Consulates outside Thailand. Only Savannakhet has the one time rule - most others will issue when needed. But that is going to be costly from Chiang Rai.

4. A multi entry non immigrant O visa would be your best choice but getting them in the local area is not a sure bet and you do not have the funds to prove you are able to support your stay so it may not be possible. Currently we have several reports from both Penang and Kuala Lumpur of success in obtaining multi entry but it would be a long trip for you if you only get a single entry - but may well be worth it.

5. Immigration would only need proof of tax payments on an income of 40k to approve one year extensions of stay so if you can increase family income that should be your goal.

Sir,

Although I also grope in the dark about the meaning of this comment, it probably is of no consequence.

Oh really?

Reacting on, what might be stupid in your eyes, also might be classified as, well, stupid?

However, I presume you will understand that the Thai immigration authorities prefer people that bring some money into Thailand, and people that will not claim benefits, in any form, from the state?

The immigration rules are geared to making it very difficult, or impossible, for non-spending "tourists" or "immigrants" to stay in the Kingdom.

A very understandable thing to do, and the Thai have every right to do this.

And that is, of course, not very nice for you.

But, be assured, the Immigration Police does not give a hoot!

Even people with a good enough income, married to a Thai, will nearly always be considered to be NON-IMMIGRANT.

Again, the officials don't mind.

But, the non immigrants spending at least 45,000 baht a month, or more, have to apply for an extension of stay, every year!

And that is most of the time, not a fun happening!

However, one of the reactions gives you some possible things to do.

And that is probably all you will get!

Maybe you are fishing for someone to advise you to do something stupid, but I guess we will not, and cannot do that.

Now, maybe you understand the reaction about not taking the bait?

Have a nice day, and good luck!

So where does your 10k a month come from and how will you pay for things like medical bills ? are you living off your wife's earnings ? If you're working it must be illegal and if not, then just what do you contribute to the economy ?

Sorry but whilst I have every sympathy for those on modest incomes trying to live here I have little sympathy for people who are obviously a burden on an impoverished country.

Hmmmmm...this is a strange website, I heard good about it until yesterday, but now I certainly can experience something else !!!!! :o:D

Suspicious is all the attitude I meet here, it is NOT of your business where I have money from, I can only inform that there is NOTHING criminal going on and that I dont get anything from the state, so your assuming of me "being a burden for the country" is nothing but WRONG - do you get that ?

Anyway, I got my answer on a different website, where there - opposite here - seemed to be friendly people !

I guess this website is only for people who have A LOT of money......enjoy your money then, because I am out of here !!! :D:D

stop spitting ya dummy out and grow up, if you walked into a bar and told everyone what you said here youd get same response 50% Good advice and 50% not belive or want to listen!

before i start :o

right i understand you aint got lots of money, whats to stop you thumbing a lift you and ya missus down country to nong kai, cross the bridge into laos total about 200 bhat, try getting alift with someone to consulte in vientine pay about 2000 bhat and get a double entry x2 tourist visa then when you arrive back into thailand the next day youll get 60 days stay, after that you can extend at your local imigration for about 1900 bhat for 30 days then do a border run and get 60 days again then ext again then 3 xborder runs!

now with you coming from denmark things might not be same as uk cos i noticed somthing different in lopuris post, so he might amened this sujjestion

However i wish you the very best of luck, and dont let them win!

now all the above sounds like hard work and expense for you, but i belive it will be better than returning to denmark and packing bacon in a factory 60 hours a week!

........it is NOT of your business where I have money from,

OK, if it is none of our business, why are you asking for help?

Thailand is clamping down on "perpetual tourists", which is what you appear to be.

If you are married to a Thai then you can get a one year extension on a Non Imm O visa,

provided you can show, to the satisfaction of your embassy and immigration, a combined

family income of 40K baht.

If you do not have that level of income, then perhaps you should look at the options

for living in another country.

Sorry if this sounds tough, but that is the way it works.
