Iphone Locking

Featured Replies

Anyone can shed some light on my problem, I've just bought an 8g Iphone but it locked up and I had to switch off to start again. This is my second phone the first I bought second hand that also locked up and got very hot so I took it back and bought this brand new out of the box, it's running on 1.1.4. if thats any help.

Have I just been unlucky or is this a recurring problem with them.Any help much appreciated.

Thanks Chris, at least I know I'm not alone, going home on five and a half hour bus ride this weekend so I'll give it a good seeing to and see if it holds up.

When using google maps if it'd not through WiFi would I be better off getting an AIS internet package.

Join the club when it comes to mobiles I just haven't got a clue, still I've got five and a half hours on the bus to read up on it.

Thanks for taking the time.

Kev.

As a general rule the iphone "switches off" when it overheats, you should be able to feel it getting warm (around the apple logo on the back) and it usually happens when browsing or calling for a long time. Can only suggest trying to keep it cool. Not easy in Thailand I know, try holding it just on the edges rather than cupping it in the hand.

As for an internet package (edge) most certainly get one, your phone bill will be shocking otherwise.

Funfun. You can use your iphone as a modem for your laptop but its not easy set up I'd stick with your other phone if I were you. Or just put your "as much as you like sim card in your iphone" and use the internet browser on your iphone.

Thanks for the info but it seems a lot of money for a phone thats got so much but is so restrictive on how long you can use it, I got it mainly because of the battery life so I can listen to music and watch videos on my 5 hour bus ride home every month, guess I'll have to try it tomorrow and see if it's up to the job.

Interesting, Ive had my iphone 8 months, never overheats and I have a plastic cover on it, as to the "shutting down", when I first had it, used a stealth sim as it was a 1.1.4 model which couldn't be cracked, and had a few issues with it, however did the software crack using independence ( I think) took 5 mins and its been working great ever since. Battery life is fantastic, my music is on like all the time, because of the phone remembering all the wi-fi spots, get all my emails and very rarely pay for accessing the internet

Same for me, no problems at all, running on 1.1.4 which I installed and unblocked myself. I also use a silicone cover and no issues with overheating.

miniwai i read your post 2 days ago, and still cant get the focking sim card out!!!

when i first got it unlocked they guy showed me how to get sim card out, he just put a pin in and out it came, then he showed me what he,d done, was put a thin pice of like plastic see through very thin circuit board along side sim card, and that was that!

never had the sim card out, till i tried 2 days ago and still cant, got me mates to have a go as well just to see if they were as thick as me, for sure, then tied a Thai person even that failed!

but yes would like to try i to see if it works, but it would be ace if i could make it work either blue tooth to comp or through its charger usb thingymabob!

I have never ever had a problem with my iPhone! I also use a plastic cover on it and never had an overheating failure or any other type of failure. It works just fine whatever i do with it. I have a sailboat charter business and I receive and send my emails at sea. I love it... Much better than any other phones I've had before!!! :o

Mine never does the shutdown thing, unlocked with Ziphone also in 5 minutes and works great.

It did notice it getting hot once, so I shut it down and restarted. My reasoning was that some background process was freaking out (this happens on the computer too) and using all the CPU, making the phone hot. Turning off and on again fixed it completely. I don't know which program would hang around - could be one of the many unofficial things i have on the phone.

As for battery life:

- Holds forever when listening to music

- Doesn't last long watching video - I don't know how short as I don't have any full length movies on my phone but running the screen for a long time and decoding video must use a lot of battery.

- Browsing the web works great but it drains battery faster than anything else, and the phone also gets hot. I think it's using all the CPU to display web pages, plus the screen == short battery life.

If you are not expecting any calls on the bus ride you can turn the radios off via Settings->Airplane mode. That should make the battery last slightly longer.

can you guys download pdf files and read them on the iphone

Well thats really nice to hear, and I might add what a great help, remember that rowan Atkinson advert for visa card, where he's bioniclors bounce of the end of his boat and into the sea!

Just thought I'd let you know, it seems to have settled down now no lock ups over the weekend and I used it a lot on the bus home although it got a little warm when using the internet, google maps worked great told me where I was on the motorway and how many kilometeres left to Mor Chit even how many hours it would take to get there, amazing tool and worth every baht I paid for it.
