This forum has really brought home the need for safety with earthing.

Two things that I wish to re-wire for earth are the fridge and a water pump.

I went to an electrical supply retailer and purchased some three core flex plus two plugs. Spoke to a local electrician at the store and he OK's it. :D On examining the plugs they are well labelled made in China, rugged and have a cable clamp included. Power rating 15 Amps. Voltage rating 125V!

Chuck them? (Couldn't go through the refund process) :o

I'm not too happy about the voltage. It should be a minimum of 300 volts.

Also, ensure that you get the "polarities" correct on your extension leads & plugs/sockets...this is VERY important.

Crossy knows more about what type of plugs can be purchased here than I do. Maybe he will chime in soon & offer some help?

Thanks again Elkanga. I wasn't clear about the "wiring", I'm not going to add an extension but rather will be replacing the cables attached to the units. Will hold off in the meantime.

I have Eagle 15A plugs bought locally that also have the 125v rating and are very high quality. Believe because the USA uses a special 230v plug that they can only label for the lower voltage. This is the metal case/yellow plastic type of plug. I have had no problem in use and expect none.

Yep ^^^.

All the US style plugs I've examined have (if marked at all) a 125V rating. This should not be an issue as the amount of insulation required to give sufficient mechanical strength is far greater than the amount needed for electrical insulation.

Does your fridge have a regular 2 pin plug or the European Schuko (big round thing)? If it's a Schuko then you just need to get an adaptor rather than replacing the cord and plug.
