Discovery Channel

Featured Replies

I watch the Discovery Channel on a regular basis as i enjoy a lot of the documentaries. Having spent some time watching the channel today i noticed the during the intervals when they show up and coming events that some were "not showing in Thailand".

This was shown at the bottom of the screen and what really pissed me off is that to me they were the most interesting.

Are we being censored by the government or is it just that Discovery don't want to show it here for some strange reason?

Cheers, Rick

I understand your frustration as I feel the same way. But I don't know why they would want to censor these programs. And its a shame, cause they're some of the best, like "Most Evil".

That was one of the programmes that i wanted to watch. Shame.

You know that sometimes i just don't understand people on this forum. They create Holy hel_l when the internet is being censored but don't really give a rats arse when the International TV channels are being censored. When Youtube was put on the blacklist many TV members were really pissed off.

My point is if they are censoring the Discovery channel what else are they censoring that we don't know about.

You know too much. Expect a visit from our friends in brown tonight and enjoy your free vacation at the local political re-education camp :-)

No, seriously, in Norway the news program "60 minutes" were sometimes cut short because some content were not approved by US authorities for viewing outside the US. But I cant figure out why a program about horrible serial killers would be denied us. Maybe the Thai government is trying to shield us against the horrors of life?

Thats bad new Paal i don't agree with censorship of any kind. We should be able to make the decision as to what we watch or read on TV and the Internet.

I think that the Goverment might be better off shielding us from the horrors of the BIB. I am of course joking!

Instead of assuming its a conspiracy by the goverment, could we just not assume UBC are getting what they are paying for...ie may be a lot of the new series and documentaries incur addtional costs to the service provider and UBC dont want to pay ??....hence we get the same old cr*p re-hashed time and time again ???.....just a thought...

Somebody mentioned "Most Evil".... that series was on Discovery in Thailand. or are you talking about a new series ??

I agree, reckon it is UBC not stumping up the cash for new programming. What I hate are all the ads for channels we can't get, really fed up with everything about UBC it's a terrible service at a premium rate.

I have seen "most evil" on discovery (UBC).

I saw a documentary on UBC (True whatever) last week which had a lot that was extremely negative about Thailand (within the confines of the topic). In fact I was quite suprised it was broadcast. It was about Dr. Pornthip.

Hi.

Thailand doesn't get a lot of that.... there's much more that is "not available in Malaysia" or "not available in Singapore". It is something which is deemed "inappropriate" in those countries (for example, pretty much anything even remotely to do with "gay" has no chance of being shown in Singapore, as backwards as they are).

Best regards.....

Thanh

About time UBC sorted out that very dodgy "intermission" music

Soon we'll have some nice ads to watch instead.

I always thought that those crime programmes they advertise were on a different channel, Discovery Crime, or something, that we don't get here? Just like all the BBC entertainment ads for the other BBC channels we also don't get.
