A friend has a one year retirement visa extension and his wife gets her one year visa extension on the basis of his visa.

At the moment their 2 children are in school and get education visas. But he is worried about what will happen in

18 months when the eldest child leaves school (She will be 16/17). The youngest may continue on to higher education

as she is bright but the eldest is likely to seek on-the-job training and will certainly leave. How does he get on?

Can the children still get extensions on his retirement visa or do they have to do something else?

My friend his wife and two children all hold UK passports.

Any advice from those who might have solved a similar situation would be appreciated.

Can stay/obtain one year extension up to age 20 on basis of parents retirement extension.

Thank you Lopburi. Most helpful.

out of interest, does the wife have a thai background, but is travelling on a UK PP? If so, it could change the answer quite a bit.

No. The wife is British as is the husband. The children are legally adopted and have UK passports, though originally from Cambodia.

As a matter of interest. If in the same circumstances the parents were under 50 and had their visas on the basis of being shareholders and employed by a Thai trading company, (one which actually traded and was successful, and paid all due taxes etc) would the answer for the children be any different?

Shareholders in a company would not obtain a one year extension of stay; so no. If the basis was work permit and a one year extension for employment it would be the same section 7.19 of police order 606/2006
