The Magnolias Hotel/condotel @ Mabprachan

I noticed today that the Magnolias at Mabprachan looks nearly completed and was wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the place?

I was told originally that it was being built by the Thai Navy and that's how they got permission to build a 5 story building. I have since been told that is owned by a rich family from Bangkok.

I dare say somewhere in the middle there will be a grain of truth.

I've also been told it will be targeting Korean and Japanese golfers but who knows.

Someone also mentioned that after 3 years as a hotel the rooms can be legally sold as condos.

I have to say that it does look ok, any more than 5 stories would have been an eyesore though.

Let's just hope we don't see a dozen condos spring up.

Rumours, rumours.

Any one want to add to the gossip? :o

I was told by a man in a bar that it is owned by a rich family from Bangkok (snap :o ), and that it is a "spa resort", whatever that may be.

I was also told a while back by another man in another bar that it did not breach height regulations, as the original rumour (no doubt spread by a man in a bar) was untrue.

The moral of the story is : You pays you money and choose which men in which bars you want to believe. :D

This man from a bar can only add to the rumor mill, namely that it is now up for sale for the asking price of 65 million Baht.

Last I heard (straight from the person responsible for issuing building permits in our lovely district) is that indeed they never obtained a building permit, since the building plan was un-aprovable due to certain building limitations in place in this district.

This is however a few months ago, so maybe in the mean time, sufficient transfers of beer money might have straightened out this problem!

However, the very reasonable asking price might indicate that the little problem is not entirely resolved!

Also, one has to question the reasoning in building a 5 floor resort, without the benefit of an elevator!

It is indeed owned by a Bangkok family of considerable wealth, I think one of the sons (he who actually is supposed to manage the place) is a former captain with Thai Airways.

I hope I have herewith sufficiently fueled the rumor mill for the foreseeable near future :o

  • 1 month later...

I have noticed that the bar/restaurant has been opened under the name of Mags Cuisine. Has anyone tried it?

I was a bit surprised to see them offering a European set for 200 baht, thought they'd have set their sights a bit higher :o

that looks to me like a missing zero...the place looks to me like a rip-off joint. Not sure if I want to be first to try it. Any volunteers?

/edit: make sure that the wording in replies to Kurgen is well honed...

I was at Kurgen's favorite watering hole last night and a gent dropped in saying he had just been there for a drink.

His report was that the drinks were cheaper than in his bar, San Mig Light 60B vs his 65B. Looked clean, did not try the food.

Kurgen or Raro if you want to check the 200B set I'm game but would like company. We can walk around and check to see if as it appears there is no lift, so the penthouse comes with a fitness package. I'm sure they would like to show the place off to some locals that "have relatives coming for a visit".

According to the January edition of the authoritative "The Property & lifestyle magazine",

How it Started

Praparn Klubmart was a Thai Navy Officer, and together with his wife Acharaa, they raised two sons and a daughter, so i was somewhat natural that their sons Piya and Krit should both begin a career in the Thai Navy, and by coincidence they both became qualified electrical engineers. However, from this point their lives diversified, with Piya spending thirteen years as a Thai Airways pilot, and along this interesting time of his life, he met and married his wife, Anchana, who still currently works with Thai Airways as an air hostess. Seven years ago Piya took the bold step of going into the property development market, and specialised in the construction of houses and apartments in the Bangkok region.

Changes came about a little unexpectedly by way of help from Piya's sister, Passara Klubmart, who has reided for a great number of years in a village not far from Pattaya's Mabprachan Dam. Further more, their very tallented sister has been the represetitive for Tambon Kao Mai Kaew (Village) for two 4-year terms, which must be regarded as a very noteworthy achievement for a Thai lady. It was upon her advice that Piya and the family turned their attention to one Rai of land, which was very nicely positioned on the eastern edge of Lake Mabprachan. Some ma say that not much can be done with only 1 Rai of land, but this has not proven to be the case, as all of the family put their ides together and came up with a brilliant 5-storey condominium designthat includes much more than just accommodation units.

......

Targeted Client Market .

With the help of the well known "Ricco Travel Company" based in Bangkok, the family is targeting the Scandinavian tourist market as the main source of their clientele, as the Nordic people tend to be a little more conservative, and fully appreciate the benefits of holidaying in a beautiful rural environment ......

This is from an interview with the family printed pages 54 - 56 of Issue 4 January 2008 edition.

I hope this helps the discussion.

Lets all wish them the best. Last thing we need is a boarded up five storey eyesore in such a prominent position.

why not turn it into an elderly peoples home it should fill up quick with all the old whiners and doom and gloom experts around here :o
