I would like to know if there is a particular meaning to a small buddha image in a plastic / glass case attached to a necklace(leather).

If this was sent by from a girl to a boy or vice versa does this imply something more than friends is wanted?

Would it normally be for bf/gf to send this to each other ?

Or is it just simply a gift and no more?

Thanks for your answer john, this is a black(clay?) buddha image in a plastic case attached to a leather necklace. I believe it was obtained from a temple, so therefore 'blessed' by a monk(s). I believe it is for good luck/ward off evil spirits(protection).

Also came with fortune written on the paper given out at the temple and lucky number etc....

What you are describing is a jatukarm amulet. Tens of thousands of them have been distributed for free.... but granted some of them have commanded insanely high prices, they are the extremely rare ones. The garden variety are either free or under 100 baht.

As for the gold, there are varying craftmanship levels and gold weights suited to varying purchasing powers. Between that, saving for several years, and borrowing money, it pretty much covers all income levels and reflects the intensity when pursuing a serious relationship.
