Police Arrest Bangladeshi Weapons Dealer

Thai police have arrested a Bangladeshi suspected of supplying arms to the Liberation Tiger of Tamil Eelam rebel group in Sri Lanka.

Bangladeshi national, Helal Akbar Choudhury was arrested by Lumpinee Police in Bangkok yesterday as a suspected arms dealer for the Liberation Tiger of Tamil Eelam rebel group in Sri Lanka.

The suspect fled prosecution into Thailand and opened several businesses as a front for his illegal activities.

The Bangladeshi national was actually wanted by the Thai police for bouncing a cheque, but a review of his background showed he is wanted in his home country for a string of crimes including murder, extortion, and arms dealing.

He tops the list of the most wanted criminals of the Bangladeshi police.

While in Thailand, the suspect also provided shelter for a number of terrorists escaping prosecution.

Thai authorities have coordinated with the Bangladeshi Embassy in Bangkok for the extradition of the suspect.
