My cousin holds Thai citizenship. He's living in abroad and married there. What are the steps required for his marriage to be recognized by thai law? What documentation he needs to provide to thai embassy in order for his wife to get visa to accompany him to Thailand based on marriage to Thai man?

same situation as me.

As soon as he is married overseas, it is recognised by Thai law. Have used my Australian marriage certificae in thailand for proof of being married (ie doing tax returns, extending my wifes visa, getting my daughters birth certificate).

In thailand, you may from time to time need to get the marriage certificate translated, but there are a bunch of translators here that can handle that for you.

Thanks Samran for quick reply. So it means that he doesn't need to register the marriage at thai embassy? He can just take the marriage certificate to the embassy and get visa for his wife? And what are the procedures after coming into thailand? How long she will be able to apply for citizenship etc?

samran, u are assuming too much; when we got married, we had to do it in thailand since my country doesnt do civil marriages , only religous and not mixed foreigner/national marriages, therefore the thai embassy/consul couldnt do anything about us getting married hence we got married in thailand.... so u have to see what country the woman is from first....

after that, its no problem on the thai side

But generally, if from most western countries (US< UK, AUS) then as Samran states, just take wedding certificate to the Thai embassy of your country & apply for his wife to get a non o visa based on marraige. There are several threads running too in the visa section about how foreign spouses of thai nationals can gain thai citizenship but generally for women married to thai men the process takes approx 3 years.
