1. Got BuddyBB with a Siemens Speed Stream 4200 (USB) modem.

2. Install software (Version=2.1.27.4) ok.

3. But when I click the Buddy Broadband icon (Tangolite.exe), nothing happens.

4. In frustration I went out and got a DLink ADSL Router.

Does anyone know how to config this for BuddyBB?????

XP Service Pack 2

Configuring it for BuddyBB, True, ToT, Maxnet etc is pretty much the same. Only the user details/ connection details are different i.e. User ID, Password, vci etc.

I assume you have;

1. installed the dlink and followed the instructions in the box about how to connect to it from your PC (in the fold out paper with installation instructions about how to connect your PC to the Dlink)

2. Have your user details from buddyBB?

Now simply enter your buddyBB connection details (provided by buddyBB) into the Dlink and your modem router should be connected.

Once this is done you need to set up your PC and other network devices on your LAN to use the Dlink.

I have a UserID/Password but dont I have to register first??

From Buddy pack I first have to use register/register as userid/password.

And then use the userid/password on the activate card to create an account.

However I cannot connect using  register/register.

Sunflowerhx, I have been a BB user for the past 2 years, and I use the same Siemens SpeedStream 4200 to access it. I can assure you that this modem/gateway works fine.

I would strongly suggest that you use the Ethernet interface rather than USB to connect your PC to your SpeedStream 4200. I would also advise against installing any software provided by BB: in fact, you don't need any of their software on their CD at all.

I have detailed the method I use to set up the PC and the modem (via Ethernet) in order to access BB in the following thread, in response to someone who had asked how to do it. If you wish to know more, just refer to this thread: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=183362

And feel free to ask me any question you may have.

Where can I get this firmware upgrade?

Just PM me an email address and I will send you the firmware in an email attachment.

Thanks Morbius, all working fine now!

I have a quick question.

Is the step 3 below necessary?

I skipped it without any problems.

However when I run the modem Diagnostics.

All pass except this but I dont have any problems getting online.

DNS Ping the primary Domain Name Server FAIL

3. Setting up your PC.

On the Network Connection page, access the Lan Area Connection that corresponds to your Ethernet network adapter. Click Properties -> Internet Protocol.

Select 'Use the following IP address' and fill in:

IP address: 10.0.0.1

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 10.0.0.138

Select 'Use the following DNS server addresses' and fill in:

Preferred DNS server: 203.146.237.237

Alternate DNS server: 203.144.255.71

I followed Morbius instruction with the firmware instruction and got the modem working using the ethernet.

1. Service wise Buddy (2M) is reliable but abit slow for international sites.

2. I find I cannot download bittorrents. Do they block it?

3. Anyone find a proxy server to allow access to BBC iplayer videos?

Thanks

I have been away for a while, with little time to access ThaiVisa, but I am glad to see that, in the meantime, you have finally managed to solve your problem and that you can access the Net using the Ethernet port of your SpeedStream 4200 with the firmware that I mentioned.

Thanks Morbius, all working fine now!

I skipped it without any problems.

Well, it's possible that your PC had the correct network settings before, and therefore, following step 3 would have no impact. I personally prefer to use a fixed local IP address rather than the DHCP mode in order to avoid the annoying "limited or no connectivity" message (Windows XP).

However when I run the modem Diagnostics.

All pass except this but I dont have any problems getting online.

DNS Ping the primary Domain Name Server FAIL

I have this 'FAIL' diagnostic message too on the primary DNS as long as the DHCP mode is disabled on the SpeedStream gateway, even with correct DNS parameters (correct addresses for primary and secondary DNS servers: positive response to 'ping'). I have no idea if this is a bug in the firmware, or if it was done on purpose. If you change the DHCP Server status in your gateway (Setup --> DHCP --> select 'Enable'. Fill in both DNS Server addresses with the values I indicated in the other thread. Uncheck 'Self' twice), and run the Diagnostics tests: it will be all green, and no more 'FAIL'! But, if everything works for you, why would you bother?

Interesting... Can you let us know which modem (exact model) you received from BB?

(if it is the Siemens SpeedStream 4200, the same one 'sunflowerhx' had received, by reading this thread, you will know that it is not that 'the modem does not work', but that BB's initial settings are not appropriate for Ethernet. And, fortunately, the modem can be re-programmed to allow connection via Ethernet by following my instructions)

They try to limit the BT traffic, but you can go around this by using a BitTorrent client with a Protocol Encryption feature.

Thanks

Could you post the link for these videos?
