Converting An .avi So It Can Play On Dvd Player

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a movie in .avi format its about 3gb. I would like to burn it on a DVD so that it plays in your basic DVD (or even VCD player). Quality is not of the utmost importance, just trying to get it to play.

I have looked through the software download list on Thai Visa but not sure what I should use.

By simple DVD I mean I dont think it is DIVX compatible, (that I really understand divx).

Also although comfortable on the pc I am a novice with film.

I am on a pc, I do have a friend with a mac too and could use the mac of the software is part of what is already on when you buy a mac.

Thanks for any suggestions.

If you have Nero 8.x you can use that as a easy tool to do that job. You can also download a 30 days Trial from Nero.com

Include in Nero is an prog named Nero Vision which is for to create DVD Movies.

Cheers.

While I have Nero I find I use CDBurner XP most of the time to burn .avi files to DVD. It's simpler to use, quick, free and the DVDs play on any player I've ever used. Many free burning software programs are speed limited but CD Burner XP burns your disc at whatever speed it is rated e.g. x4 for DVD RW, x16 for DVD R. I've tried a lot of the free software burners and this is the best I've found. I don't think a DVD is going to play in a VCD player whatever software you use unless maybe you reduce it to a smaller size so it can be burnt to CD.

As a previous poster wrote, CDBurnerXP is an excellent application which I have used a lot. However you may want to look at Ashampoo Burning Studio, which is heaps better than Nero and is free also.

If you have files that are too big to burn as AVI then try www.cocoonsoftware.com for Quick Media Converter, which will convert most video and audio files to another format. Both programs are very easy to use .

regards
