Windows XP Home OS

Back in April I downloaded Ccleaner from software downloads on this forum and ran this program, almost immediately after I had problems with passwords for email etc and, had to reset all passwords for yahoo and gmail any attempt to log on to Thai Visa failed.

On start up I receive 2 messages

(1) Windows Script Host

can not find the script file “C:Windows/system 32/kils VBS.vbs”

(2) Microsoft Visual C++runtime Library

Program C:Program Files/Ascentive/Performance Centre/ApcMain.exe

this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way

Please contact the applications support team for more information

Yesterday when visiting Thai Visa I found I was logged in as fisherd3 and later as gkroo, moving between pages had me logging in and out of these accounts. This has been happening with various other accounts since April.

I have been in contact with the forum mods but unable to solve this problems other than to say the problem lies with my PC

For the last few days I have been signed in to various other gmail accounts and only manage to get into my own account with a lot of trouble.

More worrying is the fact that my ebanking account will not accept my password so that I have ordered a new temporary PIN from my Bank but, I am worried my new ebanking password may be denied as with gmail.

I have cleaned out my cookies ran registry cleaners, deleted all the programs I am not using, nothing seems to help.

It looks like I will have to reinstall Windows but, the last time I reinstalled Windows it refused to accept the product key # and the shop I took my PC to said it would be best to buy and install a new version of Windows XP.

This is not something I want to do again.

So, Is there anything more I can do before attempting to reinstalling Windows.

Thank in advance

Getting signed in to the accounts of other users is usually a problem caused by the caching used by your ISP. I've experienced it in Thailand with True in the past but not for a long time. I couldn't believe it when I was signed in as George one time, all the extra things that suddenly appeared on my screen. I always log into and out of websites and I believe that fixed the problem for me. I use CC Cleaner sometimes but haven't had your problem. With a program like that you do have to be careful what you tick to clean e.g. I don't let it clean cookies or downloaded form information.

If your version of Windows is suspect then I don't know if you will be able to try Sytstem Restore or attemp a Windows repair. If you can't then I would buy a real version of XP for around 3000 baht and install it myself while you still can rather than play around with dodgy versions. It will be easier in the long run.

Thanks jeffer for the quick reply, I expect to receive my new eBanking PIN # by the end of this week so have some time to make a decision on this.

I have a genuine version of Win XP bought at IT City in Zeer St Mall Rangsit, they also installed it for me.

The previous version whose product key was rejected was also genuine.

So I am still worried about this product key rejection and ebanking password.

Any advice here welcome.

Weird, most of the automatic logging on onto websites (such as Thaivisa) is controlled by cookies!

In order to get logged in as an other member, somehow the cookie residing on that other member's PC must get associated with your PC.

Only think I could fathom is some weird caching going on at the ISP, but if indeed cookies can get caught up into the caching system, that would be serious bad news security wise!

Apparently they do cache cookies but while I was joking about being logged in as George I have in the past been logged in as different users on a number of other websites, all about True saving on bandwidth although why they need to cache cookies I don't know unless they can't separate cookies from the other information. Hasn't happened to me for at least two years. At an internet cafe you can explain it as a previous user forgetting to log out but when you are the only person using a home computer and another username pops up then it must be a caching problem. Only ever had it happen in Thailand with True but I'm sure that's no surpise to many people.

If you are having problems with a product key you believe to be genuine then I would be contacting Microsoft with as much information as possible. Reimar probably has a phone number you can try. If it is genuine then I think there is a good chance they would be able to help. I've re-installed XP a number of times on different computers and never had problems with product keys but even on US computer forums you see people report problems. Call me paranoid and nothing against where you bought your XP from as I know the store but I would never let any shop employee install Windows for me in a country where piracy is so common....

My first thought was that your weird logins are maybe caused by a virus, or some other malware. I would suggest downloading Windows Defender (free) from Microsoft, if you don't already have it, and do a full scan. It can often find bugs missed by other scanners.

As for CCleaner, I have used it for a few years and have not had a problem. It is important to note that not being able to log in to websites automatically after running it is entirely normal, and can even be 'fixed'. You can't log into the websites because CCleaner deleted your cookies (as instructed to do). To get around this, you can uncheck the cookies option, but better still: go to the Options screen, click the Cookies button, and then move all the cookies that you need from the left list to the right list (i.e. move anything that looks like it belongs to the websites you regularly use and trust). This is a good feature, which will prevent your useful cookies from being deleted by CCleaner, which in turn will prevent automatic login failures after running it. It is generally goodhousekeeping to tidy up unwanted cookies, if only for privacy reasons. Note that cleaning up your cookies using your browser will also delete the cookies on the CCleaner 'keep' list, so just do cookie cleaning from CCleaner.

I hope you get your problems fixed.

I downloaded Windows Defender last night and so far today have not had one login failure, OK its still to early to say the problem is solved but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I had to validate my XP home version before Win Defender would run, I knew this was a genuine XP as I talked to the IT City guy as he installed it.
