Dubai Tourist caught with Marijuana by Tourist Police.

It is the responsibility of all foreigners who come to Thailand to understand the Laws of the Kingdom and in this case dealt with by the Tourist Police, because of a lack of understanding of Thai Law, a foreign visitor is now facing deportation.

On Monday evening, Police Sergeant Major Sutin from the Undercover Unit at the Tourist Police Station received a tip-off that a man from Dubai was in possession of the class 5 drug Marijuana. The suspect, later named as Mr. Amar Ali Saad aged 20 was spotted on Walking Street and was approached by the officer who conducted a search which uncovered 4 packets of Marijuana in his trouser pocket.

Mr. Saad was later transferred to Pattaya Police Station where he confessed to purchasing the drugs from a Thai Man on Walking Street at a price of 250 Baht per bag. He will appear in court later this week and is facing possible deportation if convicted of possession of a class 5 drug.

I'm not sure someone who smokes weed can be classed as a 'druggie'

according to the law here he is , and that is all that matters.

anybody dumb enough to get caught in a sting deserves all they get.

he should count himself lucky , back home he would have been tied to a post and horsewhipped.

he fought the law ........ but the law won.

uhuh... OK, he's a druggie, a menace to society... watch out kids! Tha man'll talk you to death! Lock him up!!

I do agree though, he is lucky it happened here and not in his own country where 'druggies' are in the same class as rapists and murderers or even worse maybe!

I've heard of people getting locked up in Dubai for having minute traces of weed on the bottom of their shoes when arriving at the airport, one guy was even banged up for having a few poppy seeds stuck to his jumper from the in-flight bread roll!

You would think someone coming from this kind of culture would have a little more sense.

BTW, don't confuse the tourist police with the tourist police volunteers, they are proper coppers with just as much training as the BiB.

KohKarrang, it may not be a major offence, but anyone touching drugs over here needs their head read.

Bet he's glad he wasn't caught back home :o

Exactly, especially being a citizen. Last year a Canadian was caught in possession of .6 grams of hash and two (2) dried poppy flowers, and got a 4 year prison sentence ! He was eventually pardoned (after about 9 months in prison). What made the case stand out was, at the time, the guy was employed as an advisor to the Afghan government's poppy elimination program.

Funny though, how a guy involved in the eradication of heroin producing poppies, ended up with a small quantity of hash (produced from marijuana plants) in his pants, and traces in his urine.

Anyways, here are some other sentences handed down by the Dubai court system around the same time:

An Italian citizen was sentenced to four years in Dubai prison for possession of 1/100th of a gram of hashish last month.

Last week, a British citizen was handed the same sentence for carrying 0.7 grams of marijuana.

Something to remember the next time a farang gets caught with drugs in Thailand.

You can get 4 years for Codeine, Diazepam, Anti Depressants etc..... in Dubai

One Brit last year had 0.003g of Cannabis on the sole of his shoe whilst in transit from London to Ethiopia and got 4 years the article is here.

http://travel.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_a...icle3333905.ece

If you scroll down to the bottom you'll see 28 pages of banned substances.

Ive had tiniest bits of weed/cannabis in my pocket i.e. the bits that stay there after my jeans have been washed, scarey thought to think id get 4 years in a country ran by The Religion Of Peace, needless to say i wont go there or fly Emirates after reading that article.

Haha, that's Howard who runs PCN (now Pattaya 1), and PCNFM.

<deleted> are they doing letting volunteers go undercover and nick people??

I retract my previous statement defending their professionalism, this is a joke.

No symapthy for any druggies, they all belong in jail. How stupid are you to buy drugs in Thailand anyway? I don't approve of undercover people trying to sting folks. What the hel_l are farang doing undercover. As far as I was aware there weren't any farang cops here.(For good reason).

No he's a Foreign Tourist Police Volunteer. This goes against everything we have been told about what there role and responsibilities are, however maybe we shouldn't jump the gun too quickly. Perhaps he was just there as an interpreter, but by the way he has hold of him it does look like he made the arrest.

Perhaps if people actually read the article, they would have noticed this:

On Monday evening, Police Sergeant Major Sutin from the Undercover Unit at the Tourist Police Station received a tip-off that a man from Dubai was in possession of the class 5 drug Marijuana. The suspect, later named as Mr. Amar Ali Saad aged 20 was spotted on Walking Street and was approached by the officer who conducted a search which uncovered 4 packets of Marijuana in his trouser pocket.

Nowhere in the article does it mention anything about a Foreign Tourist Police Volunteer being involved in the arrest.

The pictures with the article were clearly taken at the police station. It appears to me that Howard is merely escorting the perp (perhaps the guy speaks a little English and Howard was translating ?).

Silly bugger he obviosly didn't know that if you go to ........ Bar on Soi .. he would get a much better deal and with it being a policemans bar guaranteed no sting!

I love a spliff but keep of it in Thailand, to risky. However should i be tested, its in your body for a few weeks and i would probably give a positive. Gives you something to think about on the plane, especially via Amsterdam!
