HI Guys,

I am visiting Thailand soon and need some advice on the best mobile internet options if I am going up to Issan .I have an eee pc and gather from what I have read so far i can either use a CAT usb modem or an edge enabled phone as a modem, with either an AIS/DTAC sim card.

The place i am visiting is about 45 kms southwest of Mukdahan ,primarily i want to be able to use skype from there, anyone up in that neck of the woods had any experience as regards coverage and quality?

I want to get the hardware before going upcountry hence the advice, rather than buy then try. and probably fail miserably!

Thanks.

I think the CDMA EVDO (CAT) modem will cost you about 12,000 baht. Not all of Issan has coverage and apparently they are going to pull the plug on the entire CDMA system. I wouldn't take a chance.

An EDGE capable phone is a sure thing. I switch SIM cards back and forth between AIS and Dtac. AIS is faster at the moment. It may be different tomorrow. :o

As long as the phone is unlocked, you can put any Thai SIM card in it.
