Change From Avg To Avira

Featured Replies

Hi,

I hope someone can help me and point me in the right direction.

I recently changed from AVG7.5 to Avira downloaded from Hippo. The problem is that I cannot open any Internet pages - I get the message "This program is not responding". And any other applications have become incredibly slow to open and for all intents and purposes the laptop is frozen. I can't even switch off the computer as there's no response. I had to switch off yesterday by unplugging from the mains.

Can anyone suggest what the problem is, or how I can rectify?

Cheers.

Did you install the Avira while you still had AVG installed and running Sounds like you have got some nasty beast on the machine. Try running Spyware and Avira

I uninstalled AVG and a a little while later downloaded Avira. I left the house this morning with Avira running a check, albeit very slow. Could a virus have jumped in that quickly as I didn't have the Internet open at the time?

The answer is yes. From what you wrote there was at least a point of time when the PC had no protection while connected to the internet. You should have waited til you had downloaded and installed the new antivirus and received all updates before uninstalling AVG. Take the computer into repair shop.

wait a second - so you were disconnected from the internet when you uninstalled AVG and installed Avira and ran the scan?
